Has Anyone Checked Out the Cdbaby $5 Sale?

For anyone unfamiliar with cdbaby, it's kind of like a music-only independent artist Amazon site. They have a link off the homepage and there's a ton of cd's listed under about every category of jazz you can imagine. Granted, there was a lot of crap (smooth jazz), but if you dig deep enough and listen to samples you can find good stuff. Only thing is- you have to buy at least 3 cd's to get the $5 price. I picked up a cd by Jack Walrath (of Mingus fame), Steve Rochinski (guitarist who took lessons from Farlow), and a saxophonist whom I never heard of by the name of Jim Cutler (but the opening track sounded great!). For $15 plus $5 shipping, I spent 3 bucks more for 3 cd's than I would have for 1. I'm always looking for new artists, and I'm poor, so it's a good thing.

GRRR: I wish I would've spell-checked the thread title.

Not bad, judging by the samples. You kind of remind of Mark Knopfler for some reason. Am I really the only person who has jumped on this sale? Am I that poor?!?

Thanks for the heads-up, justinruins.

I'm neither rich nor poor, but have been trying (not convincingly) to stifle myself after my latest mini-binge with HatHuts at The Jazz Loft. Two more arrived today, in fact.

I'll definitely take a look to see if there's something I can't live without.

The sale is seemingly perpetual, though the inventory changes. I've picked up a dozen or so in the past two years, all gifts.

The other cool thing is two-minute song samples for most, if not all songs.

If you're into The Ventures, that's the whole song!

Hey, now.

Just joking. Actually, I don't know who Mark Knopfler is.

Leader of Dire Straits. One of the best electric guitarists alive.

It's the other way around, then. My active years preceded Dire Straits.

CD Baby, by the way, is a place that actually pays up for sales -- a rarity in the music world.

I've ordered from CDBaby many times, including several from their $5 sale. One of the best ones I got from that sale was Glenn Shambroom's "Include Me Out" (it's still listed in there). Of course, I'm a sucker for bari sax so I just had to get it. A few of Jim Cifelli's discs are in that section too. The nonet date has some great arrangements.

CDBaby also carries both Organissimo discs if you're looking to fill your cart. Not only do these guys run a nice website, they play some pretty greasy organ Jazz. Listen to few samples.

Vocal fans should check out Chicago singer Dee Alexander.
