I'm sorry, I must have missed something - what's Jennifer Lopez famous FOR, fer chrissakes?

It's not immediately clear to me...

If you have to ask, you probably don't deserve to know, cHaZ. :-)

However, in the interest of fairness, and because I like you ...

Not hard to piece together from allmusic and imdb, considered seriously.
- got noticed as a "fly girl" on In Living Color
- a recurring role on a tv series followed by a number of roles in minor movies
- then two prominent films: Selena and (especially) Out of Sight.
- lots more commercial movie roles followed
- then a successful R&B/pop career built on the above.

She's a decent actress, actually. Out of Sight's a really great flick.

I take it this means you haven't seen Gigli.

Hell, one bad movie (even a really bad one) doesn't necessarily repudiate a characterization of her as a decent actress, although I'd note she also made:

The Wedding Planner
Money Train

(Will I lose all credibility if I admit to having enjoyed Anaconda?)

Hey, that comment card was hilarious!

I'll just say that it is readily apparent to me that most of the bad buzz being generated about GIGLI is coming from people who haven't seen it. 95% of the negative comments on IMDB are vague, and most of the comments that actually profess a clue are saying "it's not that bad." Martin Brest is a competent director, so I can believe it.

Still, the Onion makes a good point, in that the marketing machine wants to shove Ben and J.Lo down everyone's throat when it seems that most people don't really like either of them.

One of these new banner ads is offering her astrological birth chart. Maybe we can use it to figure out who her 5th husband will be.

The local weekly paper just gave Gigli a half star review (on a one to five star scale) and savaged it in the review. My favorite comments:

"Brest - who also wrote the film - must have developed a crippling crack habit recently or suffered some sort of breakdown. I can't imagine any other explanation for the shortage of intelligence, creativity and sound artistic judgement in his script."

and

"Brest hasn't just chosen an unpronouncable title; he's made an unspeakable movie."

That being said, I have not seen this movie and have no intention of ever doing so.

Rainy - I have read somewhere that some of the movie posters for Gigli do, in fact, feature an airbrushed ass.

I like your new avatar. That's a picture of what's-his-bucket on the Food Network. He does Italian. Haven't seen him on in a while. Maybe we should start a new thread for the Food Network.

TheLil's answer is the one I was looking for when I disengenuously asked the question.

She's a weird phenomenon this girl - she's more or less the most famous woman alive. If her looks are her major attribute, shouldn't she be ...better looking?

But I'll confess to finding Lopez ...nondescript. So maybe it's just me.

Bring back Paula Abdul, I say...

I think Salma Hayek is great looking.

Nicole Kidman makes steam come out of my ears.

Natascha Mcelhone is pretty sultry.

...but Jennifer Lopez? She should be an order of magnitude better looking for all the attention she gets.

But wtfdik...

That's my man Mario Batali. He's one of the owners of Otto, the restaurant in NYC where we dined just before we went to Dennis Gonzalez' show at Tonic Saturday night. He owns several other restaurants as well............

although i personally find jennifer very attractive, salma is by far the more attractive of the two. salma is my favorite lady to look at on the planet. she proved herself to also be a very fine actress
in "frida". as a frida and diego fan i loved the movie.

I saw that movie recently myself. While not a Frida Kahlo fan, I enjoyed the movie. And the nudity.

Amen. On all counts.

I assume all the other Salma fans here have watched the "Satana" scene in From Dusk to Dawn repeatedly?

...and we haven't even discussed Monica Bellucci.

...or the fact that Lopez' face is puppy cute rather than come -hither cute. There's another thing that puzzles me - use of the word "cute" to mean sexy. Who wants "cute" in a steamy daydream...
