Jazz Fans Gather To Create Scholarship In Love's Name
OMAHA, Neb. -- Jazz lovers gathered Saturday evening for a night of music in honor of an Omaha legend.
The concert will help raise money for the Preston Love Scholarship Fund at Creighton University. The late musician received his honorary doctorate from Creighton.
Many of the scholarship details still need to be worked out, according to coordinator and son of the jazz great, Preston Love Jr., but he said the school needed a certain amount of money before they could go forward.
Love said his father would have been proud to help future musicians live their dreams.
"My father, on the surface, was a modest man, but I think inside he would have been thrilled," Love said.
The Omaha jazz legend died of lung cancer in 2004.
Many of his children performed at the event.
