Billie Holiday: Remixed and Reimagined

They’ve given Billie Holiday the remix treatment with reworkings by Nickodemus, DJ Logic, Tony Humphries and others. I think they’re really quality and do her music justice. What do you think?

I could barely get through an entire single track of that CD.

Horrible shit, IMO

The only one that I found nearly palatable was the one from DJ Logic.
That cat shares the stage with numerous jazz musicians, and at least approaches it from a certain place of familiarity & respect.

I was going to comment on this on the Remix thread that's in the archives somewhere.
The fact that there's a smattering of Billie on this mess, as some sort of jive disguise for a bad hip-hop/drum n' bass/whatever the *flava of the month* is deal. It's pretty much without creativity to these ears, and I might go so far as to say lacking talent and 'imagination'.

One of the crappiest tunes, had this short clip looped for what seemed an eternity and went absolutely nowhere, at which point I simply cut it off and went to the next track since it had proved it had nowhere else to go.

I do appreciate that the link has what appears to be some full audio tracks so that others can decide for themselves.

The big question is if I wanted to listen to Billie, then why on earth would I go to some 21st Century knock-off, and quite frankly, rip-off instead?

Terrible !! She must really be spinning in her grave over this.

What a travesty that whoever has the rights to her material let this crap go.

Listening to Billie Holiday is heavenly bliss. Why do they need to ruin it with remix treatments?? this is just preposterous! Nickodemus, Tony Humphries and even DJ Logic, they're all hogwash!

i say, leave billie holiday alone!

This is one of the reasons I hang at Jazzcorner. It adds color to my vocabulary.

Who really is the perceived audience for this? Club kids? Don't they have better things to waste their youth on?

Only poltroons would deface masterpieces by Billie, Monk or any other of our heros.
