Band in a Box
I just got Band in a Box and find that entering new notes and editing existing notes in the treble and bass clefs is often a real headache. Replacing half notes with quarter notes or vice versa appears to be relatively difficult. The manual has quantity but it isn't much help. Does anyone know of a web link that deals with tricks for notation? Alternatively, is there other software that deals with notation in an easier way?

Dave,
I haven't used this, but it might be worth checking out.

I'm hoping that Graypencil (Phil Kelly) will appear here. If not, you might want to send him a PM, PPD.

Finale is a good notation program that should be suitable for most users, though it has none of the depth of Sibelius.
The primary purpose of Band in a Box is to create play-alongs, so it is a different thing entirely. If you're only looking for notation software, it's not the way to go.

Notation No
Thanks for the responses. I agree (now) that BIAB is not for notation although I have figured out a couple of tedious tricks that allows for some elementary notation.

Have you also checked out the BIAB forum
I have gotten a lot of use out of BIAB for generating pretty decent backing tracks for practice use. That's really where this software shines, particularly for hack musicians like myself.

Finale Notepad
I looked around and found Finale Notepad for about $20. It has a logical, easy method for entering notes and also has some reasonable playback machinery built in - an interesting alternative to BIAB.
