Top Debut Albums
What are the best debut albums? (I'm thinking specifically of musicians as leaders of the album.)
I'm not entirely sure, but I think John McLaughlin's Extrapolation is a debut album. It could be his best album, too.
Cecil Taylor's *Jazz Advance* is a pretty good one, too.

I would definately have to go with Jaco Pastorius. The first song, his rendition of Bird's Donna Lee, is just incredible. My favorite off of the album is probably Portrait of Tracy though.

Not mentioned yet:
Grachan Moncur III, Evolution
Steve Lacy - Soprano Sax
Michel Camilo - Why Not
Woody Shaw - Blackstone Legacy (Great album. His official debut, though he recorded a session in 1965 that was released in 1983.)
Bobby Hutcherson - Dialogue
Don Cherry - Complete Communion (I'll count this because I'm pretty sure it was released before The Avant Garde)

I dunno. More recently, I think. It should be noted that I use for self-referential comedic effect.

Michael Brecker's self-titled album.
Wasn't *Now He Sings, Now He Sobs* Corea's debut album? If so, I'd put that one up there.

I think it was either WC or E-40 that started it, and Snoop copped it.
Desmond Williams DELIGHTS OF THE GARDEN--anyone who likes downtempo electronica should give this cat's debut a listen.

A dead-heat between:
Clifford Jordan's
Blowin' in from Chicago (which is usually credited as his first date as a leader, even though John Gilmore gets equal billing on the cover)
and
Cliff Jordan (my choice)
Both, of course, on Blue Note.

I'm pretty sure he had some albums prior to that. But that's a really good one.
