Goodbye, Brett Somers
My friend Brett Somers passed away this morning.
She had taken me under her wing when I first joined a theater workshop in Connecticut.
She was funny, hilarious, extremely talented and kind. Most people know here from the Match Game, but few know that she was a member of the Actors Studio when it meant something and that she was a phenomenally gifted and talented writer and actress.
I wish you well, Brett.
Lots of love on your journey.

Match Game, right? She seemed like a genuine personality. I don't know anything about her career beyond that, though.
RIP

I remember Brett Somers from the Match Game very well and I enjoyed her wit and spirit very much, RBS, even as a kid. Take care and rest in peace, Ms. Somers.

That made me sad to see.
I always liked her. She seemed like someone who would have been nice to know.

She always seemed like the kind of person who would be fun to be around and would make a great no BS friend. She was married to Jack Klugman (albeit separated for many many years), and played his ex-wife on TV.

imagine being in a restaurant with her and Charles Nelson-Reilly, circa '73... quality people! Brett was an original.

My fondest memories of Brett Somers are from her days on the Odd Couple sitcom from back in the 60s/70s. If memory serves, she was really married to Jack Klugman [Oscar Madison] for many years.
A great wit and a tremendously funny actress.
Rest in Peace, Brett.

CNR also died this year. Host Gene Rayburn and announcer Johnny Olsen have been gone for awhile.
Richard Dawson will soon turn 75.

Thanks, Goody. And everyone else, too. It touches my heart.
Some classic Brett quotes:
"Elia Kazan was the best director in the world. He made you feel like the second you entered the room, you were the only person in it. (pause) He used to get more ______ than Frank Sinatra."
"Tony Randall. Look at the fuckin' guy. He's 75, looks 40, married a girl one third his age. Everyone thought he was gay. I always knew he was a _____hound."
Sorry for the blanks, but hey... I don't wanna lose the post.
"I don't know how men and women can be friends. I just don't get it."
"Brette," I say. "I have lots of women friends."
"I bet you're fuckin' 'em, aren't ya?"
"Hey," Brett says to me. "Anytime you're up here, you're welcome to stay at my house. Don't worry! You can stay in the other bedroom!"
This idiot was babbling on one day about some work that was done on stage in the workshop. He says, "I cannot let this piece go without feeling compelled to say something."
Brette: "Well, there's a big fuckin' surprise."

Brett and Jack on stage together were special, and together on talk shows, they were not to be believed, they were riotious, no telling what they would say, it was usually raunchy and funny as all get out. She did, however, show her soft side, and was all the more likable because of it, In her raunchy mode, she could even make Jack blush.
My sympathy to all who knew and loved her.
Thanks for posting about her RBS; you, especially, have my condolences.
