Recording from a webcam?

My brother just bought me a gift of a Logitech webcam. I'm late to the webcam party because I had an early one (my brother bought it for me maybe 8 years ago) and loading the software caused a computer crash that that computer never fully recovered from.

Anyway, I was wondering if there is an easy way to record from the webcam, using Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or anything else I either have on my PC or can download for free. Anyone have any experience doing this?

In case you have not checked, the software that comes with the camera (or which you can download from the manufacturer's website) should help you do this. I use(d) three different Logitech's and if I remember correctly it is easy enough once you've installed their software (it was simple to use, I'm sure there's better freeware even).

I have a Logitech Webcam, and I installed the software that came with it.

When you open Windows explorer there is a line that says "Quickcam Communicate STX#4" (my model). If you click on this you can see yourself.

There is another line that says "My Logitech Pictures". When you click on this, the right half of Windows explorer lists albums and pictures and videos. There is a button near the top right. When you mouse over this button you see "Capture a new picture or video...".

That should get you going.
