Chug beer....?

Pardon my enthusism for fine beers, but I sip beer.

Chugging is for frat party drunks.

Right now, I'm enjoying a frosty cold Alaskan Amber while listening to a Coltrane birthday tribute on WKCR (Columbia University) in our son's home in California. Life is good.

Oh, and laptops are really cool while travelling.

The S.O.B. was my favorite at the Atlantic Brewing Company, but I can only get the Bar Harbor Real and Blueberry Ales locally. I also got a warm feeling for the Bar Harbor Cadillac Mountain Stout, in 22 oz. bottles.

Two cups of Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale got me through the flight home from Manchester, N.H.

I've never tried their stout, but I do dig their Coal Porter. And I have been to Cadillac Mountain.

Cadillac Mountain Stout is one of the best beers in the country.

I had a Bear Republic XP Pale Ale last night. Tasty and then some.

The Cadillac Mtn. Stout is a product of the Bar harbor Brewing Co., not Atlantic. Unfortunately, B.H.B.C. apparently does not distribute out-of-state, so I'll have to wait to my next visit to Maine to try their Thunder Hole Ale.

I'd also like to try climbing Mt. Katahdin in Baxter Park next time I'm up there, and hopefully spot some moose.

If there are any moose left in Acadia National Park, they're awfully good at hiding for such large creatures.

Oops, my mistake on the Coal Porter. I proposed to mrs. jmj at Thunder Hole. We camped in Acadia for about ten days (many moons ago), and we were stargazing at Thunder Hole, which you could drive to from the campground after the road closed to the public for the day.

Also, we were on Mt. Dessert on Labor Day weekend, and were told (by locals) that there is apparently *one* moose currently known to be residing on the island. Could be more, though. They are amazingly elusive for such large creatures.

Alright, alright! I admit it. I had a few of these at the beach while on vacation recently. But it was because the only other choices were Bud Light and Pabst Blue Ribbon, honest.

I'd almost choose the Bud Light.

Actually, I found the Landshark pretty damn refreshing after getting my ass kicked by the Atlantic surf. However, I find it impossible to choke down swill such as Bud Light.

The Coal Porter, Cadillac Mtn. Stout, and Smuttynose IPA are all beloved features of our annual trips to Mt. Desert. All go great with the dozen or so lobsters we each consume during our time there, or just with a nice cool evening out on the porch trying to spot seals.

Oh, now I want to go back to Maine. Alas, not until next spring.

Maine is developing quite a reputation as an East Coast microbrew Mecca.

Down East in Maine, by the Pint or the Vat

I haven't tried them yet, but I know their Belgian is available locally, so I'll get to it soon.

Picked up a single bottle of this yesterday. Looked interesting. Can't wait to try it.

How could anything be lighter than a Coors?

Wait, don't tell me.

I tried it on your word, Jimmy. Perhaps my favorite Maine microbrew now. Darker and more flavorful than I expected.

Considering the consumer first? This is revolutionary for Pa.

Beer Sales in Pennsylvania Move Closer to a Makeover

by KYW's Tony Romeo

Too late for this year, but for next year’s Phillies playoff run you may be able to "mix and match" a case of beer for the post-season.
A Pennsylvania state senate committee has approved a bill that would ease Pennsylvania’s strict rules on beer sales.
The Senate Law and Justice Committee has approved a measure that would allow beer distributors to sell six-packs, not just cases, until September of next year. After that, distributors could sell any package configuration.

Restaurants and taverns could sell up to 18 cans or bottles; they are currently limited to 12.
State senator John Rafferty (R-Chester and Montgomery counties), who chairs the Senate committee, says the bill is the product of months of negotiation:
“There are a lot of special interests involved in this bill. There are a lot of people that wanted strictly their own fiefdoms preserved, and could care less about somebody else. We tried to look at number one, the bottom line, the consumer.”

Rafferty says negotiations will continue but he expects the major provisions of the bill will not change and says the measure could get a full vote in the state senate next month.

Yeah, good cold weather brew.

I also picked up a St. Peter's Old Style Porter recently along with the above Innis & Gunn but haven't tried it yet.
