MLB Postseason 2007
Bring it on.
I'm cautiously optimistic: I've seen good things out of various pieces of the offense over the last week or so, plus the pitching staff seems to be ready. I'm concerned about Manny showing up, Matsuzaka going to a full count on every fucking batter, and Tito using a two- or three-man bullpen because of no confidence votes in Gagne and others.
NL? At the risk of pumping up Uli's sense of whatever, I shall side with the Cubs. (What sort of global psyche shift would occur if they ever to win the Series?)

I'm predicting the Indians and Red Sox in the ALCS,
Cubs and Phillies in the NLCS.

I'm pulling for the rather appropriately named Rockies.

if Colorado wins tonight, the Yankees are the only team to make the postseason both last year and this year. how's that for parity?

I'm rooting for Byrnes to miss home plate and shove Kendall.
I'm rooting for the Rockies to defeat geography.
I'm rooting for ARod to have a great playoffs and not opt out to sign with the Angels.
I'm rooting for Jimmy Rollins to become a national hero and eclipse Jeter.
I'm rooting for a bench clearing brawl between the Sox and Angels.
I'm rooting for the Indians and Cubs to end their respective "curses".

I hate both.
Bostontricky - Yeah, Nancy has looked good. He finished on a .370 binge at the end and helped win some games. He started off the year the same way - doing most of his offense at the beginning of the season when Manny and Ortiz were around .180. He was the only one putting up offense. Remember when we had Mr. I Don't Believe In Dinosaurs as our only real offensive weapon? (dark days...) It was like that at the beginning, only we knew the other bats would warm up...
I hope he keeps it up. Might even lose the nickname Nancy with a good post-season...
We have: Beckett/D-K/Schilling for the post-season. D-K was great in the World Baseball Classic, and always big in his big games in Japan. Maybe he just needed a big game to pitch in (I'm just being optimistic...Already lost money on him this year, goddamnit)

I'll be rooting for the Indians obviously. Phillies and Cubs in the NL.
If the Indians get knocked out, I'll probably root for the Yanks just because I like Posada, Rivera, Jeter, Matsui, Pettite, Cano, and Tore. For some reason, in my mind the Yanks are the underdogs. I think it's because their fans are put in a position where they can't win. Since they spend the most money, they're supposed to win. It can't be as satisfying as it is for other teams to win like that (it wouldn't be for me anyway), then if they don't win, it's an utter failure.
But all of that is missing the point that no matter what you pay someone, they're still just ball players, and baseball being the great game that it is, tends to equalize almost everyone involved at some point.
Plus, Boston fans are annoying except for Lund and my guitar tech Brucie. They act like the underdogs even though they spend almost as much money and have outbid everyone for Dice K, Manny, etc. And I can't find any good reason to root for the Angels....especially after the name change which was retarded.

Keep in mind that the Sox hadn't won the Al East since 95, notwithstanding their historic run in 2004 postseason. Nor were they always willing to open the purse strings for major talent like they do now. They always found a way to fade at the end of the season and *just* miss the playoffs, usually to the Yankees. Not that I want to justify my whinier bretheren amongst the Sox fans, but at least look at things in perspective.

Don't forget that choke job to the Mets which erroneously gets put on Buckner after those POS stinkbomb relievers Schiraldi and Stanley couldn't close the deal.

Yeah, I get that, but those days are over ya know? Honestly, I don't really mind Sox fans, I just think they're a little out of control since 2004. Every time I go to Boston, it feels like I'm at a Civil War re-enactment, and everyone is on the Confederate side waving their flag...except they have Sox hats instead. It's become like this creepy cult.....I've never seen more women baseball fans in my life than I have in Boston, and I KNOW they really don't love the baseball like they act or think they do.

I can't speak for any increase in Sox paraphernelia since 2004, but there were always chicks wearing variations of Bosox stuff, especially (it seems to me, anyway) pink hats with the Sox logo. There's always been an "expat" contingent of Sox fans, especially in Baltimore and Tampa, but that number has certainly increased since 04, and I'm sure it's not because they were all in a bunker somewhere, waiting to be thawed out after The Curse had been avenged.
Edit: I almost forgot: it remains to be seen whether "those days are over". In the mind of any real Sox fan, we're one stinky season away from falling back into the abyss, and regardless of how well we play the regular season, we can *never* take for granted that we'll beat the Yankees in October. Sad, but true.

yeah, winning draws ignorant bandwagon fans, and the more you win, the dumber the fanbase gets. the main Yankee online forum (nyyfans.com) is so unreadable (although informative at times, especially about the minors) that I talk baseball on SOSH, mostly in their segregated Yankee area.

I mean, let's face it, I'm just justifying whatever subjective thoughts I already have on who to root for.....it's all in good fun. I mean, I usually hate the Yankees and most New York teams, but this year I don't for some reason....

The pink stuff I can handle. But what's with the fucking green Sox t-shirts? That should be a felony offense.
As far as the expats; there's some truth in the fact that if you want quality seats to see a Sox series, it's cheaper to fly to Tampa, stay in a hotel for two nights and pay for box seats there than it is to scalp three games worth of tickets in Kenmore Square.

I've certainly stayed in four star hotels for less than what some tickets at "the grand old stadiums" go for.

Yeah, but the trade off is that you have to sit in what amounts to a glorified, air conditioned circus tent to watch the game. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

I assume that when you say "four star" you mean a room with 2 hookers and clean sheets?

Wonder what the fallout from that one's going to be, jeez.
Who was the color guy on tonight's broadcast? Dreadful, the guy had me longing for Joe Morgan. Orsillo's a shadow of his normal self without his regular foil...

OK.
If last night's Pads v. Rockies game doesn't prove the NL West is the most competitive division in baseball....I don't know what will. Longest play-off game in history.
Could have easily gone into the 14th or beyond if the umpire makes the correct call at the plate. Holiday was out.
