I get back to you on that.
I think the only thing that is on the itinerary is a visit to that outdoor sculpture park up there somewhere.
I was hoping for a Biggish Band concert in the Woodstock town square but no dice.

Not that it matters.....but I saw Dave Bruebeck's son Dan Bruebeck [a drummer] play in the town of Woodstock with his band, Digital Dolphins.

Many artists and musicians and the like live in or near woodstock.
About 8 years ago (estimate) I attended a jazz show in Woodstock that was part of a great subscription series at the Kleinart James Art Gallery. . I forget who the leader was, but local resident Jack DeJohnette was in the audience and he was called onstage to play a few numbers. (Ralph Penland - no slouch he - was the drummer he was sitting in for). I think I also remember that local resident David Fathead Newman used to attend some these shows. )
After the show, I noticed Phil Jackson walking out of the show (hard to miss). As I was walking down the street to my car, we passed a now defunct music joint where we stopped for a few minutes to catch Levon Helm's band playing.
Amazingly, neither Jack, nor Phil nor Levon recognized me. Although I think someone called me "fathead."

One of my son's neighbors is Dr. John. The guy who used to be the drummer for The Band is a friend of his.
Lots of artist and musicians have a place in the area.

My sister-in-law lives near there [New Paltz] and when we visit, we go to Woodstock for a visit.

If you're going to be in Ulster County, where Woodstock is located, on Oct. 19, 20 and 21, 2007, there is the commemoration of the Burning of Kingston. In Oct. of 1777, the British invaded and burned over 300 homes and other buildings because of the town's Revolutionary War activities. At that time, Kingston was the capital of New York State. Kingston is not far from Woodstock. There are all kinds of other events during that weekend, in addition to reenactments of the Revolutionary War battles between the British and American forces.
The Catskills' fall foliage season will be starting soon, as well.

Unfortunately, Summer is the only time we can go back East.
The Fall colors will have to wait until retirement, I'm afraid.

We get off the train at Rhinecliff, which, I believe is just across the Hudson from Kingston, isn't it?
I'm looking forward to the color, it's a beautiful area.

Clint -- One of my best buds recorded his new release at Levon Helms's studio, there.

Small world. They were probably standing next to each other at the beer store cash register.

Levon asked daughter-in-law Shell to be his manager and do what she did for Nora Jones. Shell declined - uh - not comfortable with Levon's life style.

Levon Helm is from Marvell, Ark., (pop. about 1400) so being a fellow Arkansan, I've always taken an interest in his stuff.
Marvel is COUNTRY. It's west of West Helena, which is west of Helena, where the global HQ of KFFA and King Biscuit Flour Hour's is.

Dave Chappelle once said of the city: "Where you from, dog? Marvell? Word. That's a rough city, man."

Beats the f*** out of me.
But this is what Wikipedia says:
Helm was born in Marvell, Arkansas and began playing the guitar at the age of eight. Helm also played drums during his formative years and established his first band The Jungle Bush Beaters while in high school. He was influenced by the Grand Ole Opry and by R&B songs that he heard on radio station WLAC out of Nashville, Tennessee.
Helm became interested in rock and roll after attending an Elvis Presley concert. He moved from Arkansas to Memphis, Tennessee where he was influenced by Bo Diddley and Conway Twitty. At age 17 he was invited to join The Hawks, backing rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins. Soon after Helm joined The Hawks, they moved to Toronto, Ontario where, in 1959, they signed with Roulette Records and released several singles, including a few hits.
In the early 1960s Helm and Hawkins recruited an all-Canadian lineup of musicians: guitarist Robbie Robertson, bassist Rick Danko, pianist Richard Manuel and organist Garth Hudson. In 1963, the band parted ways with Hawkins and started touring under the name Levon and The Hawks and later to the Canadian Squires before finally changing back to The Hawks. They recorded two singles, but found little success.
