Isiah Thomas

I'm quite happy that this preening phony got his ass kicked in court, as everyone else seems to be.

There doesn't seem to be anyone coming to his defense, but then, he's still employed.

Why, oh why, haven't the Knicks dumped him?

I could be wrong, but it sounded like he didn't have to pay any money out of his pocket, just MSG.

Surprised James H. and Damen aren't here to tag-team the concept that the white man is taking a strong black guy down for inconsequential acts like sexism. It's all about fear of street cred....

I'd like to be a little bird and listen to Cookie Johnson when she heard the news, starting in the beginning; starting from when the charges were first made public and now that Isiah and his organization have been found to be at fault.

Did she, Magic. and Isiah, ever get over their tiff?

I know Cookie was livid over the gossip Isiah had put out about Magic when it was learned that Magic had AID's. I mean I wouldn't have wanted her that angry with me. A long lasting friendship seemed to be over.

Has either one of them commented on this? She or Magic?

Peter Vecsey has a good piece on Isiah in Friday's NY Post, I don't feel like digging up the link, but easy to find.

The news outlet legal pudits were pretty much in agreement that MSG, the organization (based on the interpretation of the decision), was responsible having put Thomas in his position.

Lazy fuck.

A good piece indeed.

I have to admit that I always enjoyed watching him play, and always thought he was a pretty stand up cat back in those days. But, it has become painfully apparent over the years, even to folks like me who gave up on the NBA many years ago (when Barkley retired, I dropped out since I felt he was the last of the old guard. And I couldn't stomach the new kids), that this guy is one Grade A jackhole.

Two lines from this article really stood out to me:

Quote:
He never screamed at his Knicks to break Bruce Bowen's leg
No shit!! This was probably the point in time where I most realized what a gutless piece of shit this guy really was.

Quote:
Beat writer Corky Meinecke, 42, died some six months later from cancer. His story never wavered.
Though I'm sure he's likely right in what he's angling for by saying this, it's a cheap tactic, IMO.

Man, who'd have thought the most standup cat to come from that GREAT back-to-back championship Pistons team might be:

Isiah put forth the good guy image, his interviews were all making him look like a fantastic guy who rose above all of the hardships. Guess it was a put on that had to be learned, as we're hearing he's nothing like the studied image.

Bill Lanier, right? Loved to hate him. He just had me screaming, while Larry Bird got me into enjoying the NBA games in the first place, but come to find out, Larry's lacking in character himself, turning his back on his daughter. Heart breaking to have seen her talk about him and how she felt about their relationship. Still I find it hard to dislike him, just dislike a lot of new things I found out about him.

Funny, but Nitzke was the one who got me liking pro football, it was when he would kick at players from the sidelines, and do the yelling, that he just cracked me up. He didn't seem as dirty as was being said. LT after him, he was a fantastic player.

Before Nitzke and Bird, I only liked college games, all due to the spirit from the stands, but that began to change and now there's as much fan participation in the pros as there is in college games.

Will the team owners have any way to come back on Isiah for their losses?

Maybe it was all the popups from that link. Nice pawn job by Vecsey; just when I thought it was impossible to think less of Zeke....

What gossip was this? It was pretty common knowledge that Magic banged a herculean amount of trim although to his credit, I guess, he didn't leave a Shawn Kemp level trail of bastard kids in his wake. Dunno what snarky comment could've added to that, although Zeke is very resourceful in that area.

I know about the women, because when the aids thing broke, Magic was on the news telling about the women, and the unusual places he had sex with them, even in CEO's offices, when they would step out, him having sex with secretary's or whomever, at the drop of a hat on their desks, which made it all the more exciting, and he wasn't bragging as Wilt did, he was just telling it like it was. He said he had lived dangerously, and wildly, loving every bit of it, but that it had come back to bite him.

Cookie was questioned, and so she commented on the issues surrounding Magic having related that he had aids. She talked about how friends, associate's, Magic's fans and the public were acting. She was very open, and was relating to various interviewers their own fears, and those of their friends, and the publics, as well as the reactions they had expected and about those they didn't, and Isiah was at the front of the line with those who were a disappointment, however his comments were so bad that she went off on him. She said they would never have anything to do with Isiah again, that he was the worst, that he had said and done too much to ever be a friend again. She was open and candid about everything, including her fears, her hopes and her anger.

Isiah was a great point guard, played with lots of guts, never backed down from anybody, was a leader on the court and as tough as they come.

After that, there's not much he's been successful at.

The only gripe I have with Vecsey's column is lumping together things like this lawsuit, in which his behavior cannot be condoned on any level, with things like telling his guys to break Bowen's foot or hammer anyone driving the lane, which are not only not crimes, but are extremely appropriate.

I'm still amazed that they actually went to trial with this. But that obstinate SOB Dolan just couldn't bring himself to buy a suit away I guess. What a trainwreck.

Rosie Greer said they had a break legs play, and they used it.

The thing is, when players or fans yell "KILL THE UMP!" It's only a statement of frustration and anger, it's not a literal order or statement. It's a taunt more than anything, so maybe Isiah yelling this is more of a frustrated thought than an actual order. I didn't see or hear it, so I can't really comment as to how he meant it.

I've become became so disgusted with basketball players and the hoodlum element that I got away from it. Remember, I live where it was the "Jail Blazers" and Isiah Rider being televised every week, so I lost interest. I really liked most of the earlier players, not the ones who followed Scotty Pippin, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, etc. , and I'm with you on the Charles Barkley thoughts, he made it fun, and exciting as a lot of the players during his time did. I would get more than a little upset with him at times, but even so, he was a favorite, on and off the court. I still stay up to watch him if and when I know he's going to be on one of the late night talk shows. He's more fun; he keeps me laughing.
