it is what it is
the use and abuse of this nonsensical and essentially meaningless phrase has exploded in the last few years, I've read it at least 3-4 times already today in different contexts. what it actually is is a five word phrase that means nothing, so STOP USING IT. thank you.

it's supposed to express Zen-ny attitudes without having to say "that's so Zen" which sounds particularly inauthentic in almost anyone's mouth.
What are the options?
Actually that could be fun to come up with options to this phrase that expresses it's kinda crappy but what you gonna do that's life

on my block there's a squashed pigeon really meaty and big - say the size of a 9"x9" fruit roll up - that's been on the side walk (in front of an abandoned storefront) for more than a month. he feels your pain

Actually, it has a very clear meaning to me, which is: "You may want to dwell deeper into the matter at hand but I don't, so I'm positing this ontological truism as a possible resolution to the matter with the hopes that you will get the hint and change the subject or shut up."

The use of "you know?/./!" in this society is what has gotten really out of control.
I constantly catch myself saying it and it annoys the living fuck out of me. I think I'm finally starting to cut down on my usage, but for fuck sake, where the hell did that insidious little "thought placeholder" emerge from, the depths of hell? Shit, I hear rather scholarly types use it as well.

my soul has no cavities btw - a soul can't have cavities imo - it is always of one fabric it is just that fabric is made of what the unsophisticated term "good'n'evil" hence people might think of the good as the flimsy material and the evil as holes in the material but those people would be wrong

heh. also sometimes it's used as if it's some kind of big insight, it's really infuriating.
"Manny being Manny", on the other hand, does have a very specific meaning, he's a very unique player, and you take the good with the bad, both are just "Manny being Manny". Robinson Cano on NY is a similar case, unbelievably talented but with some real bonehead plays mixed in, I've started saying "Robbie being Robbie" this year.

I did, and I'll stick by it. every individual is unique in some way, a handful are especially unique in terms of their skill sets as athletes, Dennis Rodman, Manny, Anthony Mason, to name a few, and I think Cano is (or could soon be) in this category. he's got the potential to be one of the best second basemen of all time, there's nothing he can't do on either side of the ball (except he has average to below average speed), but he's almost unreasonably calm when playing, so that whenever he does mess up, it looks like he's not trying. a few weeks, he looked so nonchalant going after a popup, that the cameraman actually panned to the outfielder, then the ball came right to Cano.
