I don't think these are actually people--just programs that send these messages out to hundreds and possibly thousands of BBS' on the 'net.

I'm not so sure, Doug. I don't think that bots have advanced to the point of being able to register on a BBS. If they have, that's kind of scary. You can't post if you're not registered here.
This jerk has registered multiple times with various names.

Ron is right at least hopefully right for a while... they do need to go thru the verification system. I just don't know why they waste their time, but it's the same as spammers... I guess they figure 1 in 5 million is worth it...
However, the 2 recent spammers are totally different ip addresses so it's not always the same guy trying to get in.
Peace Lois

Speaking of banned, if you were banned from this site would you come back under a pseudonym or would you abide by the decision of the site's owner or moderator?
How would you characterize a banned poster who comes back under a new handle? What adjectives would you use?

persistent. I think the idea of taking on another personality in particular is interesting. I'm for it. I think the behavior is more important and less who the poster might actually be which is the slippery slope and the mistake made with baksheesh.

I mean I've already responded to a private entreaty and sent mucho dinero for a breast augmentation. If I'm a sucker, then okay, but please don't reveal me as one.

Aren't we supposed to help the needy, even if they make "more noise" to get attention?

Pete's "more noise" comment was a reference to Scott.

Pete, are your questions purely rhetorical or do you have anyone in mind?

Are we talking about coming back under a pseudonym and pretending that you're not the same person who got booted? I can't see why anyone would bother with that. We post here because we "know" each other, right? If the relationships are all reset to zero, what's the point in staying here?

I think that if a poster becomes way out of line the cat's ISP can be banned or something like that.

What is the adjective for being for something, then against it, then for it again?
