The KC Jazz Club features two alumni of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz this month: Benny Reid and Tigran Hamasyan. While both are considered young for the jazz world, each has achieved the kind of recognition and reviews that even seasoned veterans desire. Benny Reid

Saxophonist Benny Reid is making his mark in the modern jazz world with his buttery sound, flavored with old-time grit. The Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead alum returns to the Kennedy Center to perform selections from his "unbelievably mature and impressive" (All About Jazz) debut CD Findings.
Tigran Hamasyan

Born in Armenia, progressive pianist Tigran Hamasyan began playing professionally at the age of ten. Now 20, he has gone on to win the 2006 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition and continues to dazzle audiences with his original compositions featuring his dynamic energy and ecelctic style.
