the season starts in two weeks, maybe we could have gone a little crazy and let the other one get to 1100?

Yao looked good tonight... in his limited pre-season play, of course. Best player in the EnBee'ey!

this season is looking increasingly prospectively ugly for the Knicks, but at least they ended the Houston silliness pretty quickly.
"The comeback of Allan Houston lasted one week and one game. The Knicks announced today that they will waive the former All-Star shooting guard.
In a press release handed out at the Knicks' open practice at Hofstra University yesterday, Houston said he decided to end his comeback, feeling it was unfair to the team because he needed more time to get into game shape than they Knicks had to give.
"I think it is better for the team to move on without me," Houston said in the release."

On the basis of recent interviews with Nellie:
Monta has only played point so far in camp, but may see action at the #2 because Belinelli's defense isn't strong enough for Nellie to leave him out there for long stretches and because Troy Hudson is playing much better than anybody expected and may meet their backup PG need. We may also see some of Baron at SG with Troy in the lineup. Belinelli is still getting used to the NBA game -- he's getting his steals, but is not hitting his 3s or slashing to the hoop the way he can.
Harrington will be the first man off the bench. Starting PF is not yet determined -- Pietrus or Barnes. With that lineup, Harrington can come in for anybody.
O'Bryant has played well enough to be backup center.

how is that team going to guard anyone? Matt Barnes defending PFs and Monta Ellis defending SGs is very amusing.

I don't disagree with you. I suspect Monta will be guarding 1s no matter where he's playing.
They drafted two PFs with lots of potential, and with SJax's suspension they'll probably both be in the opening day lineup. As I've said, much will depend on whether Wright or Lasme can contribute this year. Lasme might be ready.

Why should you care about the Celtics? Paul Pierce is the most boring "superstar" ever outside of the WNBA; he could blow out his ACL and nobody would be able to tell. He should lose that perpetual scowl/pout like he just stepped in dogshit and thank his lucky stars that enough exciting players exist so he can make more than minimum wage. And I'm waiting for Gordon to come up with some reasonable basis so I can get a few free cds by proving that KG is a world class career choking dog.

Nellie's going to go with his opening night lineup for the last two preseason games (SJax suspended for first 7 games):
PG: Baron Davis
SG: Monta Ellis
SF: Kelenna Azubuike
PF: Mickael Pietrus
C: Andris Biedrins
He now says he'll bring in Harrington and O'Bryant together off the bench, but that sounds pretty strange even for Nellie.

I can't wait to see Allen, Garnett and Pierece all bending over grabbing the end of their shorts gasping for air on the foul lane when the Bullies are running them out of the gym.

You're going to force me to root for the C's after digesting the Red Sox and Patriots' success? I might as well pull up stakes and move to Boston.

Go fer it.
Yao continues to look great. I am also excited that HE'S excited about Adelman's more uptempo offense (since he always seemed to be sluggish running up and down the court under van Guny's slow-assed half-court shit) 19 pts in 20 minutes - and most of it in the first 5 minutes when they were actually trying. I might need to buy the package this year so I can follow my manlove more closely...

A trade involving Kobe and Marion would not shock me. It works according to the RealGM Trade Checker.
Kobe for Marion favors the Suns too much.
Kobe and Cook for Marion and Barbosa works as well but favors the Lakers, IMO although that may be debatable.
Between those two scenarios, there's gotta be something that's favors the Suns (because Kobe is forcing the trade) but by less than trade scenario #1.

Marion minus Nash and the rest of the passers on the Suns won't score at the same rate.
No matter what, the Lakers won't get equal value for Kobe.

I'm counting on your loyalty to the Nets to trump your appreciation of KG. Plus I can't imagine you cheering for anybody as flat-out boring as Pierce. As much as I rag on Kobe (and don't take any of it back) I'd gladly watch him play because he's genuinely exciting. Pierce I'd watch only to see him get beat down.

I was never going to root for them against the Nets. Going into the season, my rooting interests are Nets 1, Suns 2 (replacing the Mavs).

Tradesports markets indicate that the Spurs, Mavs, and Suns are more or less co-favorites to win the title. Deja vu. All three teams are expected to win 56.5 games.
After that come the Rockets, Celtics, Bulls, Pistons, Cavs and Heat each at about 1/2 the chance of the teams in the top three.

will definitely be one of those 9 teams. i'd rank them (based on chance [%] to win championship):
suns: 31%
spurs: 27%
mavs: 26%
rockets: 6%
bulls: 3%
cavs: 2%
pistons: 2%
celtics: 1.9%
heat: 0.1%

Unless the Cavs get Pavlovic and AV back, I don't expect them to be a top 4 team in the east. Eric Snow is out with a knee injury. That may slow him down just enough to end his career. Let's hope. The Cavs have put in yet another offense and apparently it renders Z even more obsolete.
Maybe Dwayne Jones, who was defensive player of the year 3 years in a row while playing at St. Joseph's, could take Andersen's place. But, no Pavlovic means more Hughes.....that's not good.
I'm already looking forward to next off season. I expect LeBron to improve and win his first MVP trophy this year, and most likely a first or second round exit from the playoffs.
Right now, I think I would rank the East as such:
Pistons
Bulls
Heat
Celtics
Magic
Cavs
Washington
In the west it's all Warriors all the time. No need to mention any other team. Only the team of destiny matters.

West:
Spurs
Suns
Mavs
Rockets (Yao & TMac healthy)
East:
Pistons
Cavs
Bulls
Celtics (all three stars healthy)
Heat (Shaq & Wade healthy)
The rest are a bunch of pretenders with no hope of advancing past the first round of the playoffs. I think the Spurs will repeat this year, barring injury to Timmy.
EDIT: Whoops, forgot Bron Bron

Except TTODOTNM, of course. Their Jeckyl & Hyde performance in last year's playoffs makes them a big question mark to me.

I like your eastern teams. I would rank their chances much higher. In the west I'd probably take the chances of the team of the next century or the Jazz over the rockets fer sure. And the suns have no chance to win the championship.
