Stephen Stills could use a few prayers

Especially coming so soon after news of Dan Fogelberg's death from prostate cancer, let's get some good thoughts going for this master musician.

Stephen Stills, best known for his work with folk-rock trio Crosby, Stills, and Nash, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, according to bandmate Graham Nash. Nash told TV talk-show host Larry King in a telephone interview that Stills is set to undergo an operation on Jan. 3, which happens to be his 63d birthday.

The news came a day after Dan Fogelberg died at the age of 56, three years after the '70s folk singer was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. Upon learning that he had the disease, Fogelberg urged men over age 50 to get tested.

Nash said an early diagnosis of the disease had potentially saved Stills' life.

"Unlike Danny (Fogelberg), who left it too long to be seriously checked, Stephen found his at an early stage," he told CNN's "Larry King Live" show.

No one was immediately available from Stills' management team to comment.

The third member of the band, David Crosby, has also been ill, forcing the postponement of a U.S. tour earlier this year. Details of Crosby's illness were not disclosed, but he was back on stage by mid-year.

Crosby, Stills and Nash comprised one of rock's biggest acts and embodied Woodstock-era folk-rock sensibilities of peace, love and music. They were known for hits including "Teach Your Children," "Woodstock," and "Marrakesh Express."

Stills rose to fame in the mid-1960s alongside Neil Young in Buffalo Springfield, before teaming up with Crosby and Nash (and sometimes Young). The eclectic guitarist maintained a parallel solo career, which yielded such notable tunes as "Love the One You're With" and "We Are Not Helpless."

Wow, count me in w/ the prayers. I just saw Neil last night & on Saturday. On Saturday, he told us that one guitar he was playing was a guitar that Stills had given him.

He's one of my all-time favorite musicians. I'll pray for a complete recovery for him.

While we're thinking of Stephen Stills, could we add a few prayers and wishes for a friend of mine? In January he'll be getting his first radiation treatment for prostate cancer.

My friend is about three years younger than Stephen Stills. He doesn't play much guitar, doesn't sing very well, and doesn't write songs, but he's a good guy and one of my oldest friends.

Thanks.

Crosby, Stills And Nash star and singer Stephen Stills is recovering after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer, his wife confirmed yesterday (January 3).

In a public statement, Kristen Stills said the "procedure went remarkably well and he couldn't be better. He will be home by noon tomorrow and the pain will be minimal."

Stills is scheduled to attend the Sundance Film Festival in Utah for the January 25 world premiere of 'CSNY/Déjà vu’, a feature movie directed by Neil Young under his cinematic pseudonym Bernard Shakey.

The singer is also scheduled for a North American solo tour this spring.

"Bluebird" being one of several songs Still wrote for and about Judy Collins, here's a neat little reunion from 1990 staged by Nash.
