Wifi radio

I recently learned that there is such a thing as a wifi radio, a radio that hooks up to a wifi connection to stream Internet radio stations and even music on a wifi-networked computer. So if, like me, your home computer is nowhere near your living room, you can use a wifi radio to listen to Internet radio stations as you lounge on the couch sipping a martini. I want one (a wifi radio, not a martini--it's too early in the day).

Does anyone have one of these gadgets? Anybody have recommendations, comments, insights?

Tom, try this link. www.ccrane.com/radios/wifi-radios/index.aspx. They have some info on WIFI radios. The stuff you find here is state of the art.
Hope this helps.

I have a Roku Soundbridge, and although it has this capability, I've only used it once or twice for that. I usually use it to stream music from my upstairs computer. Works quite well for both purposes.

I would like to get the S-52DAB from Denon.
Or, in my dreams, the F103HR system

The Roku is a great way to go, and as vibes says it can be used for both Internet radio and playing music stored on your computer through your stereo system. It's a great product.

If you have a wireless router and a laptop computer with wireless connectivity, you already own a WiFi radio.

I have neither! Actually, I'm not sure--is a wireless router virtual or hardware? If it's hardware I don't have one. I have a wireless connection that my son hooks up to with his laptop, but my computer and his laptop don't see each other.

Thanks for the info, everybody, I'll go exploring.

Hi, Tom-

A wireless router is hardware.

Here's what mine looks like ... a product of Netgear.

It's what allows a desktop or laptop computer to connect with the internet without wires or cables via DSL or Cable modems, primarily.

What "wireless connection" does your son hook up with his laptop? Please explain, if possible.

Oh, OK. I have one of those things, but I just think of it as the wireless box. Didn't know it was called a router. I can also hook it up to my computer with a cable for Internet access should the wifi for some reason stop functioning.

But I thought routers managed networks, so that from my desktop I could see shared folders on my son's laptop, and vice-versa, which isn't the case. Then again, maybe we just have to do something to allow that sharing. I'll have to look into it. Thanks, Ron!
