Damn, Super Tuesday, Giants' parade day (starting right now), Mardi Gras, and Paczki Day all rolled into one...

Yum.

And Chinese New Year in 2 days. Enjoy!

Do you like yours with powdered sugar, icing or fried orange zest?

And what is your favorite filling?

Who could forget? ;-)

This week is also the fortieth anniversary of the Tet Offensive (if using the Vietnamese calendar).

Had mine with raspberry filling this morning. Couldn't finish it. I'm a pussy anymore when it comes to eating. The best ones in the United States come from here:

What's the correct pronunciation? I might pass by the local Polish food shop in JC to see if they're got any and don't want a kielbase to the skull.

btw, our office secretary's name is Paxcy, but she's Ecuadorian.

For the word Paczki, which is plural, it's "Pone-ch-ki." The singular form is Paczek, which is pronounced "Pone-ch-ek."

Although "poonch-key" will work quite nicely as well. If you say "poonch-keys" (working class plural), the lady behind the counter might ask what street you grew up on.

If you can't get any, Krispy Kreme jelly donuts will serve as a decent substitute; keeping in mind the proper ratio of three donuts : one paczki.

It's pronounced as Botricky said above around my way. I have to say that Krispy Kremes are punks compared to a paczki. The 3 to 1 ratio sounds about right, though.

Called the folks to wish my dad a happy Paczki Day, for which he was grateful. He asked if there's Chruscik Day. Hell, every day's a chruscik day.

My mom's dad was a baker in Germany and she claims they maid a similar pre-Lenten treat called Pfaff......[some absurdly long Germanic word] which she insists was better than paczki.

Yeah, right.

Still, outside of a few hardline Poles in Hamtramck, Chicago, and Milwaukee, no one's going to give you grief if you refer to them as packzies or punchkeys or poonchkinis (espcially if your mouth is full). Smaczne!

Yeah, right.
Yeah, let's not trust Mom's opinion on important world issues like this!

I can't believe a DP like Ollie has to aks the pronunciation. I think it's just a dodge to act like he's not really a closet devout mackerel snapper and won't have a dirty forehead tomorrow.

Dirty Polack? Dynamic Presence?

I decided to pass on the paczki and give my love handles a break.

Oy, tomorrow's that weird zombie day? Creeps. Me. Out.

So Linda comes home last night and I mention that I phoned the folks to wish Dad a Happy Paczki Day, expecting a look of bewilderment, and she says, "Oh yeah, paczki, one of the docs gave me four at work."

"?!?!", says I.

"I cut them into slices and gave them to my nurses."

"?@?!?@^!*!&", I exclaim, "You didn't bring any home for your husband?"

"No, they were really greasy. Delicious, though"

Dammit.
