Oscars Indecisive on Democratic Nominee
I had come up with the theory that the best actress award could be the barometer of who would snag the democratic nomination. I figured if Julie Christie won in her role as an Alzheimer's patient, this would be a harbinger of a Clinton win. If Ellen Page won in her role as a feisty teenager, it would be Obama all the way. Neither one won. It's anyone's race.
Some are saying that "No Country for Old Men" could be a rallying cry against McCain, but I think there's a Javier Bardem inside him ready to spring into action.

Hey, if it's good enough for one mammal, it's good enough for another. What could be more humane?

I always liked the execution scene from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life.

Is that what that is? It certainly has a "don't mess with me" air about it.

Well, the winner of the best actress award was French. At least that means that McCain will lose, no?

I'm afraid not. Sarko left his wife, nobody cared. Big up for St. John.
On the other hand, the Senator from Illinois finally gave the right wing noise machine the back of the hand it so richly deserves.

I think, as the item said, that Obama has learned something from John Kerry's campaign, if he didn't instictively know it.
John Kerry trusted the public to see the lies about his military service for what they were. They got worse and got believed by more people. Had his advisors told him to fight back, he would have been seen as a candidate who saw the attacks for what they were and refused to let them stand.
Fighting back without flailing or over-reacting is how a statesman worthy of being President behaves. Taking the high road does not always mean doing nothing. It means knowing when to do nothing.

Kerry actually spent too much time trying to deal with those charges, when he should have shrugged and offered to show any journalist his service record who wanted to see it, and then just ignored them. One of that crew that was insisting he hadn't earned his decorations had been his CO in Vietnam days. No one gets decorated unless his CO (and everyone else further up the chain of command) puts him in for it. So, the admiral was either lying during the campaign or he was lying in Vietnam. Either way, a liar. They would never have been able to get away with that shit if it weren't for the fact that less than one percent of the population has even worn a uniform.
You get into defending too much, you're no longer on the offensive and your opponent is. If Kerry had remembered that basic lesson and applied it, the media could have had a field day on Scumbuckets For De Troot themselves, as they'd have then been on the defensive and without ammunition.
Obama seems at least to have a clue about strategy and tactics. That's more than can be said for most of the rest of them. Kerry understood these things in Vietnam but spent so many years in Washington that his brain went soft and numb on him. Those people were clowns compared to the Vietnamese, let's face it.
