Lost Velvet Underground song "I'm Not A Young Man Anymore

Listen to it here.

Overground
Over the weekend, various blogs began to circulate a bootleg performance of the Velvet Underground—a rare recording of the band playing at the Gymnasium in New York City, in April, 1967. The Gymnasium was an Andy Warhol-backed night spot in the East Seventies that had been a health club; Warhol wanted to leave the gym equipment out during shows for audience members to use. This bootleg is the only known live recording of the group from that year. It features an early run-through of the epochal “Sister Ray,” a frequent show-closer that wouldn’t appear on record until the following year. And, most importantly, it includes a major discovery, the previously unheard song “I’m Not a Young Man Anymore,” which was, until now, the sole property of the memories of the dozens of people in attendance on the night of the performance. No word on how the recording came to light; maybe it’s a fortieth-anniversary present from the band. Listen below.—Ben Greenman

Nice, very cool find.

Sister Ray seems to be from a different source. Sound is clearer, Lou is louder, and there's a lot of annoying mic feedback.

Yep maybe cause none of the guys who poste here (check other threads) such uprights citizens would ever illegally download a track especially knowing the artist might be ripped off.

Yeah I am sure Lou and John got their cut! Yep Im sure!!

Agreed re feedback. I finally listened to it all this morning and like the lost song quite a bit. I do love hearing Lou and Sterl play together and it's one of my all time favorite sounds in rnr. Lou's vocals grate a bit in places but overall it was worth hearing some live material with Cale in the band. It sounds better than most of the very good Quine bootleg box iirc.
