NEW YORK, NY --- Before there was the Oscar, there was Ossie. Of Ruby, Ossie Davis said of his wife and lifetime partner "Fly, Ruby, fly!" She is flying, indeed.
The Oscar nomination, the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Black Enterprise Hollywood Icon Award, and the NAACP Chairman’s Image Award. Ruby told columnist Cindy Adams, “It’s like in my old age. I got hotter... I know Ossie is up there doing his job for me. Doing something anyhow… probably picketing.”
Welcome our very own American Legend home on Friday 29th, 2008 where she will read Ossie’s play, “The People of Clarendon County” with Lou Gossett Jr., Alan Alda, and Rev. James Forbes with a special musical performance by Odetta. The program begins at 7:00 pm preceded by a cocktail reception at 6:00 pm. The event will take place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Labor Center, 310 West 43rd Street between 8th and 9th Ave.
The Campaign for the Ossie Davis Endowment will support Ossie Davis Scholars, African American college students charged with continuing his life of artistic activism through their educational and professional choices.
