I love Herbie, and I love Joni Mitchell. I was glad to hear that for once, something decent might have one a real Grammy. I haven't heard the album yet, but I was a little promotional video for it on YouTube and it sounded pretty good.

Last week I was Herbie on the Tonight show. I couldn't suss out who the bass player and drummer were (definitely NOT Holland and DeJohnette) but he had Louke and Luciana Souza with him.

They did 'The River' and I thought someone had snuck into my house and started a Thorazine drip in my arm....I couldn't believe how flat and lifeless the music sounded. I hope it was just the night...

For those of you who missed Herbie Hancock this past Sunday on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood, here's the video — a very well-constructed piece.

I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality and length of this special segment on Herbie.

Thanks to my friend, Valerie Bishop for the link.

That was wonderful! Thanks. Sunday I was running around getting ready for a gig and never turned the tv on all day. Glad I didn't miss this!

BTW, I was a little girl in the audience when "Herbert Hancock" soloed with the Chicago Symphony. I think he must have still been in Grade school, too.

yes, indeedy!!! Herbie's mother talked about her Herbert Jeffrey Hancock very proudly re his early accomplishments. She also liked to say that his sister, Jean, was the brightest of her three children!!!

i loved the sunday morning segment. thought it was really special. and herbie's smile could easily light the world! loved the closing comments after being referred to as a "legend". he said, "that's just because i'm old"; and "how can a legend be named herbie?"!! very cute!

I caught the broadcast Sunday. They did a very nice job.

I did have some sadness remembering when jazz was a regular part of the show.

Sunday Morning is still one of the best shows on commercial tv. They haven't dumbed it down too much.

The Billy Taylor hosted segments were always great.
