On March 19, 2008, the Lyric is proud to present the legendary saxophone and clarinet virtuoso Paquito D'Rivera in a unique program of Cuban music prepared especially for the Lyric's 10th anniversary season. D'Rivera will be performing his own music as well as that of Alejandro Garcia Caturla, Amadeo Roldan, and other Cuban composers. Caturla, whom D'Rivera considers one of the greatest Cuban composers, was also a judge tragically killed by a man over whose case he was presiding.

The Grammy Award-winning D'Rivera will be joined by Brenda Feliciano, soprano; Adonis Gonzalez, piano; and the LatinSax Quartet, featuring Oscar Gongora on soprano sax; Alejandro Rios on alto sax; Guillermo Madriz on tenor sax; and Raul Cordies on baritone sax. D'Rivera is arranging and orchestrating several works for various configurations of these musicians, including sax quartet and quintet, and various duo and trio combinations. It promises to be an extraordinary evening.

In this, as in all concerts at the Lyric, the musicians will speak about the history and background of the music during the evening. And also, as always, a light reception with the artists will follow the concert.
