Looks like a good line-up this year. I'm glad the Arkestra is coming back, and I can't wait to see that legendary Parker/Guy/Lytton trio!
I thought Vandermark played only with Powerhouse Sound this year, but I've just looked at the schedule, and on June 25 they've programmed Free Fall (Vandermark/Wiik/Håker Flaten), plus a Paal Nilssen-Love/Magnus Broo duet and a Vandermark solo set. Still not Atomic, but close enough!

Suoni Per Il Popolo releases full schedule
8th Annual Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival’s lineup is set.
Montreal, Quebec, CANADA (April 4, 2008) The Suoni Per Il Popolo,
Montreal’s premiere avant garde music festival, has released its full
festival schedule via its website at www.suoniperilpopolo.org.
The festival which runs from June 1 to June 30, 2008 will feature an
eclectic variety of genres such as avant folk, experimental electronics,
free jazz and improv, loud rock, musique actuelle, noise/drone/freedom,
pop, psych rock, punk rock, twentieth century avant garde, and world
music. Highlighted artists include the Nels Cline Singers, the Sun Ra
Arkestra, Michael Hurley, Francisco Lopez, Oneida, Loren Connors,
Powerhouse Sound featuring Ken Vandermark and members of Tortoise, Roswell
Rudd & Mark Dresser, Roscoe Mitchell, Mt. Eerie, Tim Hecker, Hard Cell
(Tim Berne/Craig Taborn/Thom Rainey), Carla Bozulich’s Evangelista, Vic
Chesnutt, MV & EE with the Golden Road, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial
Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, the Sun City Girls’ Alan and Sir Richard
Bishop, Evan Parker Trio featuring Paul Lytton and Barry Guy, Lhasa,
Excepter, Quatuor Bozzini, Grant Hart, Glen Hall/William Hooker/Dominic Duval
trio, Greg Macpherson, Jaap Blonk, Sandro Perri, Matana Roberts' !
Mississippi Moonchile, Retribution Gospel Choir, Paul Flaherty, Marissa
Nadler, Picastro, Bob Wiseman, Paal Nilssen-Love/Magnus Broo duo,
Blues Control, and Thalia Zedek.
As usual, the festival will be working with a wide array of local
labels in its Independent Label Series. The annual family day, Popolo in
the Park, is scheduled for June 21, 2008. The Suoni Per Il Popolo will
also present a special Big Band Series, and the Band Played On
highlighting Large Ensembles. Featured artists will include The Lollipop
People, Sam Shalabi's Land Of Kush, Christof Migone's Hit Parade, Rainer
Wiens' In C Ensemble, and The Ratchet Orchestra.
Biographical information on these artists will be available soon in the
festival program. Tickets will go on sale in mid-April and a festival
press conference will take place in late April/early May.
Festival sponsors include Heritage Canada, Canada Arts Council,
Quebec’s Ministry of Municipal and Regional Affairs, Montreal Arts Council,
Norway’s Music Information Centre, Switzerland’s Pro Helvetica, and the
Royal Dutch Embassy.

The Suoni Per Il Popolo 2008 Festival Announces its full lineup!
For the 8th year, Montreal Festival Brings Music to the People.
Montreal’s Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival (Sounds For The People Festival), one of North America’s largest and most diverse avant garde and experimental music festivals, is proud to announce that its eighth annual edition will run from Sunday, June 1 to Monday, June 30, 2008. Confirmed highlights include Tortoise’s Jeff Parker and John Herndon who will perform with Ken Vandermark in Powerhouse Sound, returning legends Sun Ra Arkestra, and brothers Sir Richard Bishop and Alan Bishop who will play one of their first concerts of Sun City Girls’ music since the untimely death of their late great drummer, Charles Gocher, as well as their own stellar sets.
Other notable musicians on this year’s roster include Table of the Elements guitarist Loren Connors, ex-Hüsker Dü member Grant Hart, Sandro Perri (Polmo Popo), underground folk icon Michael Hurley, Tim Hecker, storied folkman Vic Chestnutt, local heroes A Silver Mt. Zion, avant rock duo Magik Markers, and Phil Elverum's mysterious Mt. Eerie project. As usual, the festival will feature a stellar roster of free jazz artists including William Hooker with Glen Hall and Dominic Duval, Hard Cell featuring Tim Berne, Craig Taborn and Thom Rainey, Matana Roberts Sextet featuring Hill Greene, pianist Shoko Nagai, the trio of Evan Parker, Barry Guy, and Paul Lytton, living legend trombonist Roswell Rudd in a rare duo setting with bassist Mark Dresser, and founding member of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Roscoe Mitchell. This year’s edition will also feature a special large ensemble series entitled ‘And the Bands Played On’ that will feature a performance by the Rainer Wiens Ensemble of!
Terry Riley’s ‘In C’, Nicolas Caloia's Ratchet Orchestra, Christof Migone's Hit Parade and a new piece by Sam Shalabi. The fifth edition of the Independent Label Series will once again feature an exciting range of artists from local and international independent record labels.
Others artists include: Pop Levi, Elfin Saddle, The Luyas, Greg Macpherson, Bob Wiseman, The Lollipop People, Picastro, Francisco Lopez, Orillia Opry, Nina Nastasia, Retribution Gospel Choir, Marissa Nadler and more more more!
