If there was no Schillinger there would be no Porgy and Bess.

I thought I would give a little overview of what Schillinger and Rhythm Engineering is all about.
Schillinger taught his system of composition in the 1940's. He was an accomplished musician, composer, mathematician and educator. His theory was encapsulated into 12 books, after his death. His first book was the Theory of Rhythm and it was the backbone to the other 11 books. His philosophy was that music could be explained in mathematical terms. Rhythm engineering teaches Schillinger's Theory of Rhythm along with additional concepts. The basis of Schillinger is that all rhythms can be constructed when reduced to numbers. In using a scientific approach the number patterns allow us to write in all styles and create styles that have not yet been developed yet. Using numbers makes all our rhythm processes simple. Only a few easy math equations are used which are explained as the course progresses. Rhythm engineering is practical and its techniques can be put into practice almost right from the beginning of the course. These techniques carry into other theories and courses which include melody, harmony, arranging and composing.

Hope this helps,
Phil
