Paris Hilton to Judge Miss Turkey 2008, Calls Self Role Model

And people talk about a clash of civilizations.

Paris Hilton happy to be role model for girls
By Ercan Ersoy

Paris Hilton, the celebrity and hotel heiress who spent a stint in jail last year, said on Thursday she sees herself as a role model for young women as she prepared to judge a contest to crown Miss Turkey.

Hilton, who will sit on a jury to select Miss Turkey 2008, said she valued not only beauty but also "good heart" when looking at the contestants' attributes.

"This is my first time judging anything like this," she told Reuters. "I'm going to look at how the girls carry themselves, what they look like, the way they dress and what they say."

It might seem ironic that Hilton, 27, sees herself as a role model and is judging what other women will say about their lives and futures. She starred in U.S. reality TV show "The Simple Life" portraying herself as a rich girl overcome by the boring routine of daily, middle-class life.

Hilton earned a lot of unwanted publicity in 2003 after an amateur sex video of her hit the Internet, and spent three weeks in a Los Angeles last year in a drunken driving case.

But her name is used to sell a host of products around the world and she is followed by paparazzi.

Hilton said 90 percent of stories about her in the media are "complete lies," and she blamed the numerous bloggers on the Internet for spreading misinformation.

"I don't pay attention to lies because I am a good person, I work very hard and I've built this empire on my own. I think this is an inspiration for a lot of girls out there."

Asked if she was happy to be seen as a role model by girls, Hilton said: "Yes."

Hilton, whose grandfather Barron Hilton decided to donate 97 percent of his $2.3 billion wealth to charity, said she did not have any hard feelings about his decision, which many presumed would drastically reduce her future inheritance.

"It won't affect me anyway," she said. "My grandfather is an incredible man. He is very generous. And what he is doing is amazing."

Hilton's latest project is a show on MTV in which people will compete to be her friend. "Paris Hilton's My New BFF" (best friend forever) is set to air on the U.S. cable network later this year.

"I obviously have a lot of friends already, but I just thought it would make great TV show," she said. "You know, most of my friends are from Hollywood. They are kind a jaded a little bit. We are going to be meeting people from all around the world."

Just shoot me.

However, a friend of my younger daughter, who is twenty-three, has modelled her life on Paris Hilton, from her blonde-by-choice hair and vacuous look right down to the rat-like dog she carries in her oversized tote bag.
So, I guess that there are some young women who admire this waste of skin.
WHEW!!

I argued with a female friend who defended Paris Hilton's shoplifting of a pornographic DVD of herself from an LA news vendor.

"They shouldn't be selling that!"
"She shouldn't!"
"OK, but they shouldn't!"
"But she is!"
"But they shouldn't!"
"She shouldn't!"
"But they are!"
"But so's she!"
etc.

I just can't hate her. She may not do anything worth anything, but I can't hate her.

I see youngish girls toting around their little dogs Blonde Ambition style and they are so proud of themselves having the quintessential fashion accessory. You can see them looking to see if they are being looked at. It’s just so in-your-face. I’m not talking about everyone toting their little dog around. People take their dogs out into the world with affection and for the animals own benefit (I’m still waiting for the pocket cat). But there are those others. I feel a little sorry for both dog and girl whenever I see them.

Dig this.
Erin [my daughter] and her fiance were asked to look after this alleged dog for the weekend while the Paris wannabe and her boyfriend went away.
Erin said OK and she and Kenny did nothing but play with this animal for two days, checking on him throughout the night etc. etc. etc.
They cancelled all their weekend plans to babysit a dog!!
Erin's friend was angry at Erin when she found out that Manalo, the dog, wasn't sleeping in the same bed as Erin!!!
Erin and Kenny had bought a dog basket for him to sleep in and he slept in it.
These girls!! They're certifiable!

LOL. That is shocking. Erin should have said they didn't want to crush Manolo - named after the shoes no doubt - in their sleep. It reminds me a wee bit of a housesitting job I took when I first moved to San Francisco - you know watering plants and taking care of the cat while I lived there for several weeks. The Dame of the house was a pretty ancient black and white cat named Lily - who by herself, really was quite unoffensive - but the woman had instructed me that I was not to lift Lily down off my lap but Lily was to leave of her own volition. Even funnier is that I largely respected this instruction and so my friends would be laughing at me taking their bong hits while I waited for Lily to decide to get off my lap.

Is Lily still on your lap??

Hee hee. No she got down. That wasn't the real kicker about that house. The real kicker is they had a terra cotta kitchen floor that couldn't get wet. Maybe it hadn't been sealed or something before they went away but man I was constantly towel in hand wiping up the floor. So young and naive and obedient was I then. It took me a long time to unlearn obedience. It is still my firstest instinct.

The other day I was talking to the news editor of the local, now mediocre, newspaper.

I accused the industry of dumbing down its product to attract idiots who probably don't read newspapers anyway.

He kind of agreed, blamed corporate pressures.

Crap like this just verifies my contention.

I don't think any of you understand how big this story is. Paris Hilton to judge Miss Turkey. Let's see...has there ever been a famous war on the shores of Turkey that got started with a beauty contest and the judgement of Paris?

Well, that's an understandable mistake to make. They do have some mighty good-looking turkeys in L.A. from what I've heard.

Hey, I live in a state where they have testicle festivals. And yes, there is a queen.

So, I didn't really know what to think...
