Memorable quotes from posts

It's not too early to get this one going. Nothing new right this second, but I'll start by quoting the first post of the archived version:

Sometimes people say things in their posts that are just great, and I always wish I could remember them all. Let this thread be the place to store quotes from posts. Please, don't post frivolous stuff of your own, just other people's pithy words, with full attribution! I'll start with this one from H.L. Jones :

"Man if jazz is dead there is some jammin ass Ghosts."

- post 76 in thread "Is jazz dead?" (05-31-2001 / 09:04 PM)

Edit: I just realized the posts aren't numbered here like they were in the old joint. At the bottom of each post it gives the date and time, we'll just have to use those.

Thread title: How do you fight a speeding ticket?

1. Monte Smith
03-13-2003 / 12:56 AM

A cop got me dead to rights today doing 49 in a 30 zone. He's right. He's got me by radar. I am sure I was committing the crime.

So how do I fight it in court?

"Bring all the personal baggage to the art (as creator or reciever) you want, but if that's ALL that's 'there', what do you have other than the equivalent of a newspaper clipping or a foo-fooey boo-hooey chop suey diary entry? If that's all there is to art, then the phone book is a fukkin' priceless masterpiece suitable for framing! There needs to be more to it than that, I think. The establishment of the self is indeed necessary, but after that is accomplished, it's time to give it up and turn it loose, and let it be a new day. So let a man come in and do the popcorn."

Jim Sangrey, post #91, Alley thread "Separating the art from the artist" (03-20-2003 / 12:54 PM)
(Yes, this is from the old Speakeasy.)

We can't forget Steve Reynolds' claim that Mujician is "the greatest improvising ensemble in the history of improvised music."

I suspect he's changed his mind by now...;--)

Tippy absolutely rules!

"Geez, remember the first time you used Noxema? I felt so grown up. It's like face whiskey for adolescent girls. Camphorific! But back in '82, it was leaving behind enough waxy residue to buff the neighbor's vintage Pacer so I stopped."

It is news to me that a public school can be allowed to be absolutely totalitarian in its self-appointed police powers over students and their behavior "anywhere in the United States or a foreign country." This is not "en loco parentus." This is en parentus loco. Insane parenting, in short.

Farts may not kill you, but I wouldn't want to go to a club, and certainly not a restaurant, where farting was encouraged.

This thread cannot boast of any credibility whatsoever until someone unearths a long lost gem I've contributed somwhere along the way. I expect diligent research to commence immediately.

Spewing worthy fodder for any discussion of memorable events on a startlingly regular basis,

Larry's right. Here's one from the old board that deserves to be reincarnated:

From the "Will Rod Stewart Ever Die" thread at the Alley:

Larry Nagel 02-05-2003 / 01:43 PM

"Tonight's The Night" is without question one of the worst pieces of phonic sh** ever to drop out of the ass of the recording industry.

I got Tisdale , Boney James and George Howard right along side of my William Parker and Matt Shipp in my record collection. Why because I JAM TO IT ALL. Labels don't bother me because if I don't dig it I ain't got to buy it or listen to. If another cat is feeling somthing else JAM ON BROTHER AND ENJOY. The world I roll in is big enough for it all.Peace and all that.

Underhound, from "For those of you with kids -- they like that shit?" (or something similar):

Recently while in the car with my 5 year old daughter I caught her quietly chanting from the back seat:

"We travel... the spaceways... from planet ... to planet..."

post #47 from "meshell ndegeocello jazz???"

Forget about her music and her looks, what about that name? You can't go wrong with a last name like that. I'd marry her just to be Moné Ndegeocello.

Any disc with Q-Tip rapping and Oprah Winfrey doing spoken of Maya Angelou's Poem "I shall not be moved" over Clarke's Bass-line rates high on my list.

Scalia said that the ruling “effectively decrees the end of all morals legislation,” and would pave the way for “judicial imposition of homosexual marriage, as has recently occurred in Canada.”
Does this mean that a Judge could force me to marry Scott Dolan? I hope he can cook.
