Well, our golden jet is airborn
Flight fifty cuts a path across the morning sky
And a voice comes on the speaker reassuring us flight fifty is the way to fly
Now a hostess takes our order
Coffee tea or something stronger to start off the day
And it's a bloody mary morning cause I'm leaving baby somewhere in LA

Rock on, Willy!
You called me Country Willie the night you walked away
With the one who promised you a life of joy
You thought my life too simple and your was much too gay
To spend it living with a country boy
I'm writing you this letter I write you every day
I hope that you've received the ones before
But I've heard not one word from you and every day I pray
That you will not forget your country boy
While you're living in the city with riches round your door
Is this your love is this your kind of joy
Or do you find there's something missing does your heart cry out for more
And do you sometimes miss your country boy
A cottage in the country with roses round the door
Could not compete with flashing city lights
But it's all I have to offer except for one thing more
A heart so filled with love that it could die
Well it's time to end this letter the light of dawn is near
A lonely night has passed but there'll be more
Just one more thing in closing for all the world to hear
Come home I love you signed your country boy

After taking several readings
he's surprised to find his mind's still fairly sound.
Happy Birthday to Willie the Wandering Gypsy.

Old enough to have worn that hole in the soundboard.
Happy birthday, Willie. Smoke one *this* long.

According to the Acoustic Guitars Illustrated Encyclopedia Willie's guitar is a 1969 Martin N-20 nylon string classical guitar

The Waterboys covered this Willie song on their brief, promo acoustic tour last year. Beautiful song.
Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground
If you had not have fallen
Then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground
And I patched up your broken wing
And hung around a while
Tried to keep your spirits up
And your fever down
I knew someday that you would fly away
For love's the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
Fly on, fly on past the speed of sound
I'd rather see you up than see you down
Leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground

Great American musician. Happy birthday, Willie.
I love his VH-1 Storytellers appearance with Cash, when he relates that his tune "Crazy" was originially going to be called "Stupid." "I'm stupid for feeling this lonely." But that it was changed because stupid did not sound as euphonious. How many classic songs did he write in that miracle week when he wrote "Crazy?" Like five or so.

And here's his latest which I can't wait for ... for obvious reasons.
Cheers,

I bet Willie is more shocked than anybody else that he's still walking around.
Life is just another scene
In this old world of broken dreams
Oh, the night life, it ain't no good life
But it's my life
