eai/noise: suggestions for beginners

Is there anything among the recent production of the two abovementioned genres that you would recommend to a somewhat beginner. Nothing too wild and out-there (I do realize that this is out-there per se), maybe something that compromises with more down-to-earth sounds and composition techniques.

thanks in advance

Hard to know what to suggest not knowing your tastes, but you might try the recent The Breadwinner (very sensuous), or the older Too Beautiful To Burn (very beautiful) or The Hands of Caravaggio (a kind of eai piano concerto). All on erstwhile.

thanks squareetc. I actually own 'too beautiful to burn' and I quite like it. On the other hand, I check MP3 samples of 'The Breadwinner' on Erstwhile website and it didn't click although I kind of realize this is not the best way to get an idea of it.

Will check 'the hands of..."

There's a current thread at I Hate Music that addresses these issues.

That thread, despite its title, is squarely an "essentials" thread, and doesn't seem to address this question at all. Caravaggio seems a good choice for spin's description.

Yeah, true. But if ssC begins to get into the area, it's a good source to have.

Check the new Erstwhile, Toshimaru Nakamura/English -- One Day. This one contains a lot of what I like about eai in general and Erstwhile in particular.

Hey, so how's come I can't get to IHM anymore? Is it down or do you need to have a membership now or what?

eai and noise should really be addressed in separate threads.

Why? They're both covered under the Geneva Convention.
