The Unexplained
A thread for the unexplained.
For example, I was just looking at a photo of a refugee camp. All of the shelters are made with blue tarps.
Why are they always blue? Why not a red tarp o-or a green tarp?

It's widely known, yet curiously under-reported, that Halliburton has attained a virtual monopoly on blue dye in the US (and most of the world) and, via croneyism, is the sole supplier of same to 95% of world governments. Cheney himself has been known to visit the dye vats, buried deep beneath the Rocky Mountains, and wallow in the azurity. He's been careless on occasion, appearing at a press conference or two with tell-tale smudges of blue on his fingertips.

My guess is that royal blue sticks out in contrast to most of nature, especially against green. For safety, visibility, rescues, etc. it makes sense. I enjoyed the Cheney bit though.

I'd say something has to be done about that but it's just too late.

Yeah, that's another. We give "up." We give it "up." We screw "up." Fuck "up." Suck it "up."
We go to the health club to work "out" in.

Are more people rich because they manufacture and distribute wear apparently officially mandated flag-pins
than those who are rich because they manufacture and distribute the apparently
officially mandated yellow crime scene tape??

And then there's this: Why are politicians always asked whether they'd smoked pot? Why single out pot? What about the other drugs? No one cares? This is an insidious prejudice that should give way to another, asking the candidate does he -- or she -- take a wide stance?
And there's another. "Take" a stance.

Nah, they make them in China, the flag pins. Some motherfucker gets paid six cents an hour so Americans can waddle around wearing a two-cent flag pin.
The yellow tape on the other hand, is a valid issue. Why yellow? Why not orange? O-or shocking pink? Indeed, we might ask why tape at all? Why not just surround the scene with heavily militarized SWAT teams? It's not like they have much to do, most days, and even when they're called out, it's almost always too late.
Not to mention the yellow "ribbons." And what is it about a yellow ribbon that signifies "support our troops, kinda."

There seems to be a large segment of the population who saw " Reefer Madness" in the fifties and still think it was an authentic documentary.
Of all the illegal drugs, pot is probably the least potentially harmful.
Unlike tobacco, it hasn't been shown to be a factor in the development of cancer.
More people commit crimes while drunk from excessive booze than while mellow from smoking pot.
But, booze is socially acceptable among the powerful in government and pot is not.
Go figure.

See? And there's another. Why are we "on" pot? Or "on" drugs in general? He was pretty drunk "on" whiskey...

Good point. I edited my post to read: "...drunk from excessive booze..."

Yeah but then we wouldn't be able to get "off" the booze.
