Floods: Lake Delton is GONE

Anyone who has been to the Wisconsin Dells area likely has visited Lake Delton. It's where the Tommy Bartlett Water Show takes place. Well, after the torrential rains this weekend and resultant flooding, it is GONE!

Lots of dams and towns on the brink.

Wow! That's crazy, man. I hope it stops raining soon and that FEMA gets its beaurocratic a** in motion right quick.

I was watching quite a bit about that on the news this morning. Just fucking devastating.

This spring has been a really nasty piece of shit here in the midwest.

We've heard from some Indiana friends about the devastation.

I think I'll put up with the occasional earthquake.

Ditto.

Damn, Scott. You leave the Florida hurricanes and the floods start in the Midwest. Don't move over here any time soon, OK?

Actually, we've had it much easier here than the upper midwest.

Lots of rain and wind, but nothing to compare with the devestation experienced in Wisconsin.

seems to me I recall some serious devastation down your way a couple of years ago when the Mississippi overflowed pretty badly, along with a couple of tributaries. Prolly before you got there, but pretty terrible.

My cousin told me about Lake Delton. I know it was man made, but still.......

Yeah, that was back in 1993, IIRC. Well before we got here. One of the guys in our investments department has an aerial photo of the downtown and immediate surrounding areas. It was mighty impressive. The big tri-level overpass that connects you to every major road in the area collapsed.

BUT, as I said before, Mr. TStor, that happened many years before I got here.

Well, if you can believe it, it's almost worse now, after yesterday's torrential rains.

Baraboo is entirely under water, with rivers running down the streets. They had to bring out the Ducks to evacuate people.

Portage suffered mudslides and more.

I-94 is closed just north of Madison. I-43 is closed around Milwaukee.

Wonder what Dennis ""It looks like a lot of that place could be bulldozed," Hastert would say.

Since you're turning in assignments now, you should use there instead of their and that is should be an are.

A perfect rebuttal.

Attacking the grammatical dipshittery of the messenger while ignoring the message.

Nicely done!

How many real people have you personally talked to about their experiences in the aftermath of the storm?
Actually, if it were not for the previous seasons storm Ivan, causing such a clusterfuck on I-10, then contraflow would not been in place and thousands would have been stuck in their cars like in the Texas situation.
Contraflow was a local emergency plan put into place. The Louisiana State Police has final say so when to enact it and after Ivan, the Katrina contraflow was put into place almost immediately.
Also, how do you get people to leave, that don't want to leave? The majority of the people who went to the Superdome, thought they would stay the night and be back home the next day. The culture down here leads to mistrust of leadership telling them what to do.

I understand that. And I think, once again, it's a failure in local leadership to inform the people of the potential for the massive flooding and destruction that occured. Local emergency officials, as well as state officials, were perfectly aware of the possibilities, but did they make those possibilities known?

And why have your two largest shelters right smack dab in the middle of the area where some of the worst flooding might occur?

And in a city of that size you have to enforce mandatory evacuations more than just one day before the storm is due to make landfall.

That's incredibly poor planning, IMO.

Agreed about the Superdome being used, but you really need to understand the culture down here. People would have been banging on the windows even if the place was not used.

How do you force someone out of their home?

Isn't that depriving someone of their liberty?
