If doctors had advised Abe Lincoln that he could end the Civil War by grafting a Gatlin gun to his right arm, he would've volunteered for the operation on the spot.

I read a piece about steampunk recently (NY Observer, maybe?). It seemed a little too cute for me.

There's some NY/London video hook-up going on (on the Brooklyn docks in NYC) gussied up in steempunk fashion, so it's getting some press lately.

My major association with the term is the William Gibson/Bruce Sterling novel, The Difference Engine, which was a bit interesting.

Otherwise, I just enjoyed the Lincoln image.

It seems like the phenomenon owes something to early '70s SF, like Philip Jose Farmer's stuff and Harry Harrison's "A Transatlantic Tunnel Hurrah."

Me too, clint. But I like the SF caterpillar on the docks. The picture of H.Abe is very disturbing. As if the guy didn't have enough problems.
