PLEASE READ!! I need Sonic Youth tickets
Whew...kinda a long story--but here I go. My daughter Liz is beyond unhappy & miserable because she wasn't able to get Sonic Youth tickets when they play on July 4 at the River to River Festival at Battery Park here in NYC.
When she couldn't get them on line (believe me she tried but she was IN SCHOOL when they went on sale--how dumb is that for them to have them go onsale when kids are at school!!?) and when she tried as soon as she could but they were sold out. Well, there was much sorrow & distress in our house. She placed an ad on Craig's list & a guy who had some for sale PROMISED them to her for $40.00 apiece. She was thrilled & everything settled down at my house.
Well, just a few minutes ago, moments after they made arrangements for her to pick them up & everything, he tells her that now someone offered him more money and ..."so well, you know, sorry". She is DEVASTATED.
So, please anyone who may read this. Do you have Sonic Youth tickets, can we buy them, do you have any extra, do you have any pull in getting Sonic Youth tickets? Sonic Youth people, if you are reading this--pm me!! Thanks so MUCH!!

For christs sake, Mary. Calm down.
The world will not come to an end if Liz doesn't get to see SY in concert.
Take a deep breath, gather yourself, and calmly start looking for tickets. I mean, you're fucking making me a nervous wreck over here already!
Relax.
Namaste...

JM, I think Jon's post was intended to convey the unliklihood of there being a network of SY fans on JC.
Maybe if you were searching for Pat Metheny tix...
I am not admonishing you, I hope she gets her wish.

Mary, I feel your pain. Unfortunately, the ticket business is the most corrupt enterprise in America today. You can pay four times face value at a ticket agency, five times face value on eBay, and maybe 1.5 times face value scalping outside the theater (though you risk a bust).
I've learned that most venues set aside a bunch of choice seats for press, VIPs, and other favors. In the days before the show, any that haven't been called for are put up for sale. A friend of mine once got eighth-row floor center section seats for Paul McCartney the day before a show, for the regular price.
So, though there is a risk of getting shut out, your best bet likely is to be patient and let the market for the tickets stabilize. In the meantime, you should put another posting on Craigs List or something similar. There's gotta be more people with tix to sell. Just make sure the tix you're buying are legit; there are a lot of counterfeiters out there.
Like I said, tickets are the most corrupt game in town.
PS: You're a good mom!

These tickets, for the River to River festival, were free - but you had to be on the internet at the right time.

In a sarcastic sort of way, yes.
Such a thing to say, Jesse.

I actually thought she was asking if actual SY members lurk here. I kind of know some of those guys, I got Thurston to put Yuko and myself on the guest list for one of their sold-out shows here a couple of years ago (at tiny Maxwell's in Hoboken, very cool to see them at such a small place). but it's been a while since I've seen any of them in person, I wouldn't even ask for myself at this point.

JM,
I'd check any ticket sources that sell for those who are trying to off-load their tickets.
http://www.findticketsfast.com/Conce..._Tickets.shtml might be a possibility.

What's the big deal? There'll be plenty of other chances. It doesn't look like they'll be breaking up any time soon.
I only saw SY once, at the very beginning, ca. 1983?. They shared a bill with The Swans at a little theater in the East Village before their first big tour. I was comped because I knew a couple of members of that version of The Swans.
I saw the Feelies once, at the Mudd Club.

The pix were scooped up in total within 13 minutes JM, so perhaps a grip on the situation might at least let everyone know that this was difficult if not impossible from the start.
WFMU has a small amount of promotional tix that they'll give away on air.
Lots of luck in whatever you do.......

As Pete said......this isn't exactly their last concert or anything. And being from NYC, I would think there will plenty of chances to see them in the future.

Saw them twice, I think, though on both occasions I was really there to see the band with whom they were sharing the bill. Around '86 in Central Park with Sun Ra and then about seven years back at the Hammerstein Ballroom where Brotzmann's Tentet opened for them. First time, I enjoyed their noisier moments but was bored by the leaden rhythms, second time I thought their poppier things were pretty good but that their freer moments were lame. Go figure.

Really? I know I saw Sun Ra there twice, once in the bandshell--that must have been the earlier show.

May the good Lord bless you with reasonably priced Sonic Youth tickets.
By the way, is going to Sonic Youth today similar to, say, my going to see The Monkees in the 1980s. Is it going to be at all like those revival things they do on PBS during pledge week?
