It's another example of what I've been saying for years. The "Founders" did not found a Christian nation that accords in any way with what that would mean to people, today.
They were men of the Enlightenment. Deism accepted the possibility of a creator but it rejected the notion of a personal god concerned with human life, never mind one's individual affairs.
What they founded was a constitutional republic. Citizens' religious beliefs if any were thier own concerns, not the republic's.
