I'm thinking of getting this, but am concerned about Kikuchi, who has a tendency to squeal and groan like Jarrett only worse. Is there a lot of that on this one?

Wow! That's one hell of a band! This is going on my wish list for certain. Curious about the Kikuchi issue - re Jarrett style noises. Also - where is he from? There's a paucity of good Asian (read Japanese) jazzers around these days, in terms of being integrated into the scene. Why is that? I know they've got (and have had in the past) some sterling players. I never got the exposure, and thusly don't know enough to mention specific names, but given the great love for The Jazz Music that is evident in Japan (I'm thinking of the royal welcomes Miles described - even the hilarious puking incident he describes in his autobiography)
So why? Theories and expert opinions greatly appreciated...

AMG reviewer Ken Dryden was only particularly bothered by it on one tune, so I guess that's not too bad.

"Fiasco" has an intense, dissonant theme, though Kikuchi's noisy vocals prove just as irritating as Keith Jarrett's self-indulgent cries, adding little to the performance.

With a name like Masabumi Kikuchi, you're wondering where he's from? Really?

I've never heard him play, but I'm pretty certain that he's from Japan.

Always remember that Google is your friend.

True, and i did assume he was Japanese, but i was really fishing for some experienced advice and illuminating tidbits of information about the guy - i trust the people here for that far more than Google.

I don't like it half-as-much as the Broadways.
Sounds somewhat disrupted IMHO
Can't wait: coming Friday this will be mine

"A loveley way to spend an evening" is going to be on it. If that doesn't sound like a programme

I found his "vocal stylings" to be unbearable on that Motian disc with Rebecca Martin.

I would be curious to know how his association with Paul Motian came about. About all I know about him is the records he made with Motian and Peacock under the group name Tethered Moon and the fact that I love his playing. It appears as though he has made a few records in Japan but like most of the other recordings by Japanese musicians, they are completely unknown to us here in the US.

A good place to hear a number of excellent jazz musicians from Japan is to listen to one of Satoko Fujii's Orchestra Tokyo CDs.

sorry, I am late. To answer your question: fabulous

The opener "Morrock" shocked me a bit, its a bit edgy and does sound like the title itself imposes, but the rest: 50 minutes sheer pleasure. "I see your face before me" 12 minutes 30 secs
Love it
