I believe you, Mary, and it causes me to wonder aloud about why nobody from jazzcorner, except you, is going.

Guys, go to the link above & read about it on Roulette's website. The concert is this Saturday at 8:30!
Tip, I dunno. I'm sure some JC people will be there. Brian Allen will be performing. You should come!
I'm not worried though, because every musician in this town loves Tina and they will all be there. It will be an "event".

I don't have anyone in NY to do things with that's why I didn't see Dennis but I will be there in spirit.

Huh?? You have me for this gig. I wanted to go to Dennis' gig, but I just wasn't able to because of scheduling conflicts.
You should come to Tina's gig. I think you would really like it. It's really beautiful music. I'll be there & a lot of other folks too!
One thing that is nice about going to hear music, you can do it by yourself. I do fairly often because I often don't know folks who want to go.

You are a million miles from chopped liver. Would we be able to sit together? I am thinking I might go. I’ll know better when Saturday comes. How much is it? Is it seated? Will it sell out?

You'd better sit with me!!!
I have never been to Roulette, so I don't know what the seating is like. I doubt if it will be sold out. I will probably get there a little early, so I can save you a seat.
Admission is only $15.00. It's at 20 Greene Street between Canal and Grand.
Tip, it'd be great if you came. I would love to see & hang w/ you! I will send you my cell # in a pm.

Tina and I worked together for a decade, and it was always beautiful and satisfying music. Rich and varied, and now, with the lineup she has in the NY band, it should be great.
I helped record and produce three of her records, and the music was always excellent and touching back then...I can imagine how high it'll soar during this concert.
If there's any way any of you can go, it's going to be well worth it.

cooluh, JM and me will have a mini-hang.
(Clint, I will be gone from NY next fall but maybe I could get together with the California crew. That will be one good reason to have a car again! Freedom! - oh yeah, except for the gas prices.)

I had a really lovely time at this event with JM on Saturday night. And I am not going to have time to write about it properly this week but we heard some really satisfying compositions by Alex Coke, John Mills, Bob Rodriguez, Tina Marsh and Brian Allen - who were all there performing their work. I really was very impressed by everything I heard and it was a treat to hear these compositions performed by truly outstanding musicians and every person among the 10 made a memorable contribution over the course of the evening. I can understand why JM said don't miss since it was unique for me in this respect - multiple (oustanding) composers all in one room with seasoned musicians playing their works. I don't have my program with me but the other performers were Ron Horton (whom I had the grand pleasure of meeting thanks to JM) and Dennis Dotson, Curtis Fowlkes, Michael Sarin and, Mary, who was the bassist? He was excellent, providing numerous high points throughout the evening and I am sorry I can't remember (or find) his name now. I could definitely have listened to this program again. There was a real nice balance and expansiveness to the repertoire. It was bigger than the room. This generic review is an injustice but sometimes I can't stand to read what I write about music and this week I don't have time to write anything.
JM was so sweet - she hadn't realized that she was comped on the list so I ended up going in on her prepaid ticket. That was really sweet, Mary, and I am definitely doing to get you back for that. I ended up buying two cds - Migration and Alex Coke's cd which contains Iraqnophobia, five movements of which we heard that night. I hadn't seen Mary in like five or six years and I can't believe she hasn't aged a day. I was looking for somebody older, girl, so keep doing what you're doing.

Thanks, Tip. It was great seeing you! You looked as lovely as ever!
Isn't "Migration" a fantastic album! I have been listening to it nonstop at work!
Tip's review summed up the night well. The bassist was Mike Richmond, and yes, he was amazing. All the musicians in the group were incredible. Dennis Dotson played an absolutely thrilling, beautiful solo during "Courage of the Butterfly" (how wonderful to get to hear it as often as I want on the album now!) and I had the absolute pleasure of meeting him afterwards and he is so nice & funny and, small world department, he and my dear friend Dan D'Imperio (sorry, guys, but the cat is a good friend of mine...whatevs) played in Woody Herman's band together.
My one problem with the evening was that the space was way, way too hot. It must have been 95 degrees in there, there was no air at all and it was very uncomfortable.
My only problem with the music was that the program was a bit too long---3 hours. Tina took an intermission, mainly I think just so people could stagger out & try to gasp for some air, but I think things would have flowed better if it had been a concert of say, 2 hours, no intermission & at a bearable temperature.
Seeing Tina was so wonderful! She looked & sounded beautiful. I highly recommend CO2s new cd "Migration". I'm sure you can find it on their website.
I got to meet our own Brian Allen too. He didn't seem to know what to think of JM. Oh well...
