Well, we'll agree to disagree. I really enjoyed it. As an album it stands with my longtime favorite What Would It Be Without You, more consistent although no one song stands out for me like Crucificado. The two standards are wonderfully done, the striking arrangement of God Bless The Child begins with just bowed bass and vocals to dramatic effect. A sense of fun and lightheartedness is very appealing. "Jazz Ain’t Nothin’ But Soul" is very welcome in my skull! Thanks to the label owners for making it available.
It was actually a fusion thread on another board that led me to discover the site. I mentioned one of their other rarities, a group called Friends with John Abercrombie, Clint Houston, drummer Jeff Williams and an electric saxophonist named Marc Cohen who later switched to piano and recorded many albums under the name Marc Copland. Worth a listen if you don't reject fusion out of hand, definitely not commercially oriented, but the electric sax often resembles electric guitar more than acoustic alto sax. It wails.
