George Wein and the Newport All-stars at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola

GEORGE WEIN & THE NEWPORT ALL-STARS
PERFORM AT DIZZY'S CLUB COCA COLA
NOVEMBER 4 - 9, 7:30 PM & 9:30 PM

NEW YORK, October 27, 2008 - ELECT GEORGE WEIN! After you go out to vote, spend the evening with George Wein & the Newport All-stars at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway & 60th Street, 5th Floor, on Tuesday, November 4, (Election Day) and nightly through Sunday, November 9, at 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm.

Back by popular demand for the second consecutive year, pianist Wein is joined at Dizzy's by Howard Alden, guitar; Jimmy Cobb, drums, Randy Sandke, trumpet, Lew Tabackin, tenor sax; and Bob Cranshaw, bass.

George Wein and the Newport All-Stars have toured the United States, Europe and Japan, including a performance in May at the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland and in August at the JVC Jazz Festival at Newport, the renowned festival he founded 54 years ago.

Wein is considered to be as much a legend as the numerous festivals he created and produced throughout the last six decades. In fact, he is the person responsible for the Newport Jazz Festival - an event that started the "festival era," according to jazz critic Leonard Feather. In 2007, Wein merged his company, Festival Productions, Inc., with Shoreline Media, LLC to become The Festival Network, LLC. He continues as CEO and the creative force behind Festival Productions, the Live Events Division of The Festival Network.

At 83, Wein has as much creative fuel as he did when he started the Newport Jazz Festival more than 50 years ago and advanced the concept of live music. He pioneered the concept of sponsor association with music events. The Schlitz Salute to Jazz and the Kool Jazz Festival preceded any other sponsor identity with entertainment events, giving the sponsor the title presentation that guaranteed mention of the sponsor's name in publicity and promotion. His company, Festival Productions, Inc., went on to produce titled events for JVC, Mellon Bank, Verizon, Essence, Ben & Jerry's and others.

i love hearing about this! i probably first heard George when i was a very young girl at his club, Storyville, in Boston in the '50s!! and i've been a fan of Jimmy's and Bob's since the '60s and Lew's since the '70s. in other words, i would love to be at this gig but it's too many thousands of miles for me to make it! Darn!
