This was the first album when I realized that Journey drummer Steve Smith was actually a jazzer at heart.

Back in the day, I was a big Ponty fan, then my tastes changed and while I still could dig some fusion (WR, MO, RTF, and their individual components), for some reason I soured on Ponty. It's only in the last year or so that I dusted off nuggets like this one and realized it was really good stuff. Come the late 70s and 80s, I think his music definitely got less interesting, but this, Aurora, Imaginary Voyage, and to a lesser extent Cosmic Messenger, are gems. Not to mention his earlier work with Zappa, of course.

I have this on a record somewhere in my basement. I too used to love this stuff when in college. Allen H was my favorite guitar player at that time too.

I also no longer listen to either of these guys. I'm sure it will be a similar experience as having recently reheard the RTF release that was part of their tour earlier this year. That recording sure brought back memories for me but a rained out show in Boston kept me away from hearing them live again.

I believe that Ponty still tours and releases recordings regularly. Has his sound changed or is it about the same?
