Mary Halvorson Featured in Today’s New York Times

A new article written by Nate Chinen explores Brooklyn-based guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson’s music and career in anticipation of upcoming performances with violist Jessica Pavone and the Mary Havlorson Trio.

Chinen calls the trio’s recently released debut, Dragon’s Head (Firehouse 12 Records), “among this year’s standout jazz albums and one of the more original recent statements by any jazz guitarist, let alone a female jazz guitarist.”

Yeah, I saw this. Very interesting article! She's at Barbes in Brooklyn next Wed. I'd like to try to catch her.

"light years ahead of her peers, she is the most impressive guitarist of her generation. The future of jazz guitar starts here."

i couldn't agree more. Mary rocks!

This is well-deserved publicity without question. She is an amazing musician. I completely and absolutely agree with the quote barryC posted above.

Here's another feature article, this one in the current issue of Time Out New York.

FYI, she will also be featured in upcoming issues of both DownBeat and JazzTimes among other places.

I am most likely going to this tomorrrow and I want my daughter Liz, who is also a guitarist, to come with me. She has 2 mid-terms to study for but I'm hoping she can come!
