France’s nudist mullahs ‘at war with swingers’

One of Europe’s most famous nudist colonies has become the subject of an unusual investigation by French detectives after the destruction of three nightclubs in fires blamed on naturist “hardliners”.

The normally peaceful Cap d’Agde, a magnet for nudists in the south of France, has been plunged into anxiety. Investigators suspect “fundamentalist” naturists of harbouring a grudge against the échangistes, or swingers, who are drawn to the town by the promise of sex.

A so-called boîte échangiste, or wife-swapping club, called Glamour, where couples engage in group sex, was the first to be razed, in April. The next day the Palme Ré, another orgy venue, went up in flames. In September the Tantra club and Zen, its neighbouring bar, were destroyed in blazes.

Nobody was hurt but the fires have shocked a community whose crime rate has been dominated until now by cases of exhibitionism. Recently, police had to intervene as a man whipped his wife on the balcony of an apartment for the gratification of spectators in the courtyard below. “Generally we let them get on with it,” said a spokesman for the local gendarmerie. “But when there are complaints about improper behaviour, we have to act.”

Tensions have arisen between the naturists, who believe that nudity is a healthy choice of lifestyle and nothing to do with sex, and the échangistes, who are attracted to nudist camps by the prospect of multiple partners.

“What goes on in certain places is not naturism,” said Guy Delfour, former head of the French federation of naturism. “Nudity is just one element of naturism. There are other values to recognise, such as the protection of nature.”

Some in Cap d’Agde attribute the fires to fundamentalist “mullahs of chaste nudity”, as one magazine called them, who have often harangued holiday-makers venturing onto nudist beaches in bathing costumes. Others denied that naturists could have been involved.

“We don’t want to put the échangiste places out of business,” said Gilles Beaumont, a naturist and regular at Cap d’Agde. “It’s true that we don’t like being mixed up with the swingers. But we respect other people and their right to behave as they please.”

Ah! Tom and Claude, you can confirm something for me. There is evidently a considerable difference between a boîte échangiste and a bureau de change? That would explain an embarrassing difficulty the wife and I had in regard to some travellers checks in the late 90s.

Likewise people at nudist colonies. Some people should keep their clothes on most, if not all of the time.

Most people are in that category. But I suspect our attitudes (to sum up, bodies are vulnerable, filthy and ugly) are just what nudists/naturists vehemently disagree with.

There are two main reasons I've never participated in any sort of nudist colonies:

1. I'd be mortified if some naked woman pointed at my penis and started laughing;

2. I'd be afraid of becoming aroused with no way to hide it.

1. You could just point and laugh right back. Before you know it you'd be having a jolly time together.

2. Your very fear would prevent that from happening. Also all the laughter, that's a real turn-off.

A TOURIST who refused to take his clothes off at a swinger sex party has been blamed for "a mini-riot" at a north Queensland nudist colony.

Police were called amid threats of violence and lewd behaviour and ordered the Brisbane man and his wife from the adults-only "anything goes" sex party.

The White Cockatoo resort at Mossman, near Port Douglas, is promoting swingers and sex parties in a month of hedonism for March in a bid to boost sagging tourism figures.

Once billed as the nation's top group-sex hotspot for swingers, the resort made international headlines last year when The Courier-Mail first reported plans to lift a self-imposed swinger ban.

Owner Tony Fox said the "mini-riot" erupted when four naked female guests protested when confronted by the fully-clothed man.

"They felt uncomfortable with him eyeing them off and I asked him to show some respect and take his clothes off," said the nudist colony manager.
"He then threatened to bash me, there was some argy-bargy and I ordered him off the premises and police were called."

Having been to nude beaches in Florida in the past, I can say there is nothing to see. Unless you like looking at incredibly fat, old, and unattractive people naked.

Looked at another way, all us fat, old, and/or unattractive people can go to nude beaches to look at the likes of Scott or his female counterparts, who are there being disappointed by our looks.
