Birthday wishes for Clark Terry

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for all the beautiful get well wishes. I’m feeling better. I was in New York a few weeks ago as a surprise for my friend, Quincy Jones at a very special jazz party hosted by Wendy Oxenhorn of The Jazz Foundation of America. I hope to be back on the road in the near future.

December 14th, my birthday, is a very special day for me. I will have done what we refer to in jazz as “having gone through the keys.” Eighty-eight notes on a piano – one note for each year of my life.

I hope you’ll celebrate with me wherever you are. I love you and may God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Clark Terry

Do you remember how we sent get well wishes to Clark last Spring? He cherished each and everyone of them. His wife, Gwen read him all the emails and all the notes posted here.

Can we do the same thing for his birthday? You can email him directly at

clarkandgwen@clarkterry.com and/or post them here as well.

We love you too, Clark!

I'll begin the celebration by extending an early Happy Birthday wish, and the hope that you celebrate many more than the notes on a piano. My parents and my wife's parents would be/are the same age, by the way ... all born in 1920.

never thought of it quite that way before.

Hope your birthday is filled with good friends, good food, good times and lots of happy memories of those 87 past celebrations!

Love,
June

Happy Birthday!

My son and I listen to your music and loved your appearance on Little Bill. That was a hoot!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Terry! I was going to try to say that in mumblese, but I thought that I'd better leave the mumbling to the master. I hope to catch you again when you're back on the road.

CT,

You must be on everyone's favorite trumpeters short list.
Happy Birthday, Happy Holidays, and may you put a long extension on that 88!!

When I was a kid, and you were on the NY Tonite Show Band, I'd pray that they played "Stump The Band" and call on you!

Happy Birthday, Clark! I will always remember my 16th birthday when you sang "happy birthday" to me at the Country Kitchen in LeMars, Iowa. It was during the middle of jazz camp and a definite highlight of a fantastic week! I celebrated my birthday at your camps for several years in a row -- what fun that was for me!

Sending wishes for a wonderful birthday and many more years of joy! I wish I could return the favor and sing to you today!
