Indeed!!! But Bush is so dense that he probably doesn't know that in the Middle East, having shoes thrown at you is a huge insult.
But, the journalist who flung his footware at Bush, as if to make the point clear, also hurled "Here's your kiss goodby, you dog" at him, to boot.

Nyah-nyah, ya missed. But in fairness, shoes are not the big weapon in this conference, it's the vest.

Somebody in security is going to have to explain how the dude had time to launch the second shoe. And the guy should have followed up by starting to shout 'Don't taze me, Bro!', just for fun.

I would like to give a true response to this...but I have a wife and a job, and I don't think I could stand "rendition."

To be fair, Monte, even if both shoes had found their target and beaned Bush, the point was the insult, not possible injury. Just how much damage could even an on-target shoe or two have done, especially if it caught him on the side of his brain-holder??
Probably for the next 32 days everybody who attends a Bush news conference will have to leave their shoes at the door, kind of like they were going into a mosque.

I guess embarrassment is the least of our troubles. The troubles of Iraq, a whole other ball of wax. I know I shouldn’t but in this moment I feel kind of sorry for this supremely stupid person, our President, George W. Bush. I would hate to be him.

I am inclined to think that George W Bush is incapable of feeling either embarrassment OR shame. So, perhaps the only harm that might have resulted from the two shoes aimed at his head would have been if they had actually hit him. Otherwise, the subtle nature of the statement was obviously lost on him.

Think of the collateral damage that could have been caused had the Odor Eaters fallen out in flight.

You’re right. He would have to have some sense to feel those things.

Thanks for the explanation, patricia, I didn't realize you were so deeply involved in the planning of this shuicide attack. Which let's face it, was cobbled together. There is no truth, by the way, to the rumor that the reporter who went toe-to-toe with the President was Helen Thomas. But at least we all know why those TSA goons are so interested in our shoes.

Shuist hailed as folk hero, faces 7 years in prison

>>Hitting someone with a shoe is a deep insult in the Arab world, signifying that the person being struck is as low as the dirt underneath the sole of a shoe. Compounding the insult were Mr. Zaidi’s words as he hurled his footwear at President Bush: “This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog!” While calling someone a dog is universally harsh, among Arabs, who traditionally consider dogs unclean, those words were an even stronger slight.<<

And what penalty do Bush and his minions face for destroying much of Iraq and killing hundreds of thousands of her citizens on the basis of lies.
That is not even taking into account the personal animosity that Bush had toward Saddam Hussein, for being The guy who tried to kill my dad.

The video on the news this morning made my day. I just love the look on Bush's face when the first show flies by. I was on my rowing machine for my morning workout when I first saw it and I had to stop for a bit until I stopped laughing.

We'll see. They'll probably wind up getting off with nothing worse than a battering from historians. What they deserve is another story.

As though having a shoe thrown at you in some other part of the world is a sloppy kiss. But you guys who seek to emphasize what a huge insult this is in Arab culture and can Bush even understand that? Maybe you should understand that it is a joke that Arabs find dogs unclean and think that the worst thing in the world is the underside of a shoe. It is a joke. There are two groups of people who foam at the mouth at the primitive insult represented by shoesoles and canines, two groups. The other group is fucknuts.

How many here would have been hit by at least one of those puppies?

After I stopped laughing I thought the same thing. Probably comes from years of frat parties.
