Detroit thread redux

With my hometown so much in the news lately, I was feeling nostalgic and thought it may be time for a new thread about it. Plus, I've been poking around the internet looking stuff up on the place on this snowy NYC morning, had some posts I wanted to make, and was too lazy and clueless to go back and dig up the old "Hey Al and Tricky" thread that's been kicking around here for awhile.

Detroit winter 2008:

(bonus points for those who can recognize the buildings reflected in the street)

I'll be back there for the holidays for the next week or so. Driving out of NYC when I get a weather window.

Here's my current favorite website on the city and life there. This guy, an old friend of my sister's, started out with the usual Detroit blog about exploring all the abandoned buildings (as you'll see if you go back in the archives a ways), but he has now turned to telling the stories of local businesses and people and the conditions under which they're living. Pretty good stuff:

And now for some good news from Detroit (well, Monte probably won't think so...)

Donna has some family in the Detroit area.

We went back there for a wedding one time and that was enough.

I pulled up the old thread for you, Al. You just gotta go to Advanced Search, plug in 'hey' as 'Keywords' and select 'Search Titles Only' below.

You, sir, are less clueless, and much less lazy, than I.
