Merry Christmas JC 2008

Let me be the first to wish everyone a merry Christmas this year. Hope the season is joyous for you all and that no one finds themselves miraculously pregnant who isn't ready for it.

Hit it, boys and Kirsty:

Why some people assume that celebrating Christmas is only a religious event escapes me, frankly.

Our family has celebrated Christmas for over 40 years, and yet it's never been a religious holiday for us. And this, in a family where the patriarch is a retired minister.

We celebrate the joy of having family together, "corny rituals" such as Christmas trees, stockings hung by the chimney with care, good food & gift exchanges, too.

We'll repeat our seasonal family traditions & rituals this year, glad once again for all that it means to each of us ... personally.

Merry Christmas~

My thoughts are exactly the same as Ron's in post # 7 .
Merry Christmas to all and good health , happiness , luck in the upcoming new year and all the years that follow.
Now I got to sign off.....Wife and I are starting to make cabbage rolls and perogy to go with Wed's turkey and everything else. This will be a day long event to-day, but well worth it when it's all laid out at our Christmas meal.
Again a merry Christmas to the Yanks in here .

Well I keep Festivus ... are we still allowed to say Merry Christmas? Well have a Happy, Merry, Joyous, Religious, (Ridiculous?), Gluttonous, Masochistic, Socialistic Whatever.
Remember Dec. 23 ..... it is truly for the rest of us.

Well, as one who doesn't celebrate it, I have no problem with what other people do. My problem begins where others start chiding me for not celebrating it. There are all kinds of holidays I don't celebrate and don't get chided about. There are holidays I observe that they don't, also. To each his own. There is a place for ritual in the world but it should be a place chosen by each for his own reasons, not someone else's.

There are days that are special to me but not to others. I can't see any reason to chide the others over it.

Individual faiths, as unreasonable as they usually are, seems to need focus points to reinforce their faiths, especially in light of the overwhelming scientific evidence that these beliefs are unsubstantiated by fact.

So the celebration of Christmas or Hanukkah or whatever significant day is a basic part of most faiths.

I wish those who need religious faith happiness and comfort in their beliefs.

There's an item in today's paper about the Pogues and their Christmas song.
I have no idea what the lyrics are, but it's certainly different.

Merry Christmas to all. I have just finished making the pumpkin pies. I will be working Christmas Eve, but I'll have several days off. My next workday after Christmas Eve will be January 5, 2009.

The lyrics are great, maybe the best thing about it:

Fairytale of New York

It was Christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
Ive got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the nypd choir
Were singing galway bay
And the bells were ringing out
For Christmas day

Youre a bum
Youre a punk
Youre an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God its our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Cant make it all alone
I've built my dreams around you

Those are the lines that make the song. And despite them, it is truly a tender and warm carol. The boys of the NYPD choir still singing Galway Bay and the bells are ringing out for Christmas day!

Make the best of it, folks. Even you stinkers who have to poo-poo and bah caveat.

I'm with Ron. I attach no religious significance to Christmas, but I do see it as a time to connect with family and to be thankful. And shop.

Wife and I spent all day Tues. makeing Ukrainian cabbage rolls, and Ukrainian pierogi.
In about 6 hrs. from now, this is our traditional Christmas supper.
Ukrainian cabbage rolls,Ukrainian pierogi, Turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberry sause, salad, rolls, Ham, corn and peas.
Too much desert to put down.
