S...... Powers
Let's move on and raise the level of our debate about nutrition or medicine.
I invite posters of both sexes to have a say. Come to think of it, both sexes may vote in either a subjective or objective way.

Of course, some groups may feel left out. I'm not going to do further comments on that.
The reason I posted this is that there are many people who have reported about very potent effects of a low-carb-high-fat-way-of-eating and at the same time claiming that these effects are underreported.

It is nice to be at the age where one can choose to participate without feeling compelled.

That's easy, that's obviously poll option II! In rare cases it will only take 20 years of the bod, though for some that will do.

I guess that what I am saying is that it's possible to take many years off the bod cause so many years have been added early on. I am really just saying that the food humans are supposed to eat is the most potent medicine you'll ever find.

In a couple of weeks, I'll be 76 years old. I eat what I want, smoke cigars, drink fine whiskey and have a wonderful wife.
I'm sure the food police have a warrant out for me.

Go for it, Clint! And if anyone has a problem with that I will personally straighten their shit out.

I'm not policing, I'm just being optimistic. By 75, I'll probably be realistic.
My feel at the present is that an amazing number of people who are 25 years younger than you feel like they're your age. I want to point to the food police who is responsible for that. Heavy burden, indeed.

Eat, drink and be merry: dieting's new philosophy
Amelia Hill
The Observer, Sunday 28 December 2008
(...)
"We live in a low-fat, fat-free culture, and women in particular have done their bodies a disservice, because we have disrupted our hormones to a quite phenomenal degree," said Blum, author of Secrets of Gorgeous: Hundreds of Ways to Live Well While Living It Up. "We have got ourselves to a stage where we can't comprehend that we need good fats to live a healthy life. We need fat to regulate our hormones. We need cholesterol to make oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
"Fat-free diets have had the most awful impact on our sex lives, too," added Blum, who has run her nutrition clinic for 15 years and is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Certification Board for Nutrition Specialists. "Women have removed fat from their diets, then been surprised when their libido is affected."
Her advice has transformed Blum's profile from an anonymous medical boffin to the Martha Stewart of the New York health and fitness scene. Since the publication of her book, she has rarely been off daytime television and the front of America's most glamorous women's magazines.
"We should be eating full-fat food," she said. "Fat-free foods can contribute to weight gain because they register in the body as a carbohydrate. They also have less vitamin D. Egg yolks contain more protein than the white, as well as lecithin and choline, which help the liver break down and metabolise cholesterol. Saturated fats support bones, protect the liver, enhance the immune system, and absorb omega-3s. In moderation, they don't cause heart disease but slow down the absorption of foods in your stomach, making you feel fuller for longer."
Blum suggests starting the day with a vegetable omelette and strawberries, detoxing regularly with beetroot and carrots, and eating wild Alaskan salmon three times a week: "This is your facelift in your fridge; your internal plastic surgeon. Wild salmon gives contours to your face and body by stimulating muscles."
Blum is also realistic about convincing women to adopt a teetotal lifestyle. Instead she counsels mitigating the impact on the waistline by skipping mixers. "Don't slam down shots, but sipping whisky or vodka on the rocks means avoiding a whole lot of sugar," she said. (...)

It isn't anything new, and it certainly isn't a cure-all, but staying out of McDonald's (and any place remotely like it) has worked well for me over the last 20 years or so.

If you'd have to eat at McDonald's and if the meat there would be from grass-fed animals and if you'd only eat the in-between-bread-stuff...
French paradox food and and a glass of wine is even better, as you probably know...

Fortunately, out here we have In N'Out, which serves the best fast food burgers anywhere. All they sell is burgers made from only fresh ingredients. Great skin-on fries, too.
I'll have a double double with grilled onions, por favor.

I agree, Clint.
Though Tommy's World Famous is a very close second, IMHO.

In your case I was probably talking about your girlfriend's boyfriend.
But, please, talk to your boyfriend. If he knows anything about nutrition, that may possibly be beneficial. Who knows...
It worries me that you'll have to wait too long before you get the consultation you need... You're aging steadily, but surely

Sand, I've been taking supplemental DHEA, which is a hormone primarily produced by the adrenal glands. It's over the counter in the US but not to be taken lightly because it's a steroid/hormone. Our own DHEA peaks in our mid 20s and it's down hill after that. The goal of supplementation would be to increase levels to something closer to more youthful peaks. I take it for specific reasons, but this stuff definitely has an effect on libido. Especially for women.
I saw some testimonials from women who went from having little interest in sex to wanting to have it every day. Their husbands probably have to start taking it just to keep up .

The original Tommy's on Alvarado is special. But the other locations don't come close.
