Lotte Anker was born 1958 in Copenhagen. She studied with Joe Henderson, David Liebman, John Tchicai, David Murray and Bob Brookmeyer. She has been a member of various Danish/Scandinavian groups including Marilyn Mazurs' Primi Band as well as New Music Orchestra, Pierre Dorges' SubwayMusic, Barry Guy +Av-Art Orchestra, and ensembles led by Peter Brotzmann, Miya Masaoka, Thomas Lehn, Michael Formanek, Tim Berne, Marc Ducret, Dylan van der Schyff, Paal Nilssen-Love, Herb Robertson, Arve Henriksen, Anders Jormin and Andrew Cyrille.
Ikue Mori moved from her native city of Tokyo to New York in 1977. As a drummer, she formed the seminal No Wave band DNA, with fellow noise pioneers Arto Lindsay and Tim Wright. DNA enjoyed legendary cult status, while creating a new brand of radical rhythms and dissonant sounds; forever altering the face of rock music. In the mid 80's Mori started to employ drum machines within the context of improvised music, quickly forging her own highly sensitive and unique style. She has performed with Ensemble Modern with Zeena Parkins and composer Fred Frith, and currently performs and records with Mephista with Sylvie Courvoisier and Susie Ibarra, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, and John Zorn's Electric Masada.
Sylvie Courvoisier was born and raised in Lausanne, Switzerland, and moved to Brooklyn in 1998. She has played and recorded with John Zorn, Joey Baron, Tony Oxley, Yusef Lateef, Dave Douglas, Butch Morris, Mark Dresser, Fred Frith, among others. She is currently the leader of her quintet Lonelyville with Ikue Mori, Mark Feldman, Vincent Courtois and Gerald Cleaver and the trio Abaton. She is a member of Mephista, an improvising trio with Ikue Mori and Susie Ibarra; the Herb Robertson Quintet with Tim Berne, Tom Rainey and Mark Dresser; and a trio with Ellery Eskelin and Vincent Courtois. She also performs regularly alone and in duo with violinist Mark Feldman.
