Vote for our farmer!
We belong to a Community Supported Agriculture farm here. Our farmer, Claire Strader, has been "nominated" for "White House farmer." (It's a gimmick to support sustainable ag.)
Anyway, there's an online vote to pick three finalists. Vote for Claire!
(Trust me, she deserves it.)
Here's the e-mail we got about it.
CSA Members,
I have been nominated for White House farmer! Please see the message below and take a minute to vote. While I am not expecting to go to Washington, it would be a great honor for me to be in the top three. Please vote and spread the word!
Many Thanks!
Claire

I'll bet she can't do anything about the huge farm price supports to the mega farmers.

I voted for Claire, Chris. Best of luck. It looks like she’s got a chance. I can email my friends the link too. They like pressing buttons.

I'm sure that many, if not most of those farmers deserve our praise and votes, but since I don't know any of them and trust your judgment, I also voted for Claire, Chris.

If they're on the list, they're more than solid organic farmers, you're right , Ron.
Thanks for the votes!

I voted Claire, Chris.
We are an Ag intensive area so I am happy to help out another farmer.
Just so you know, a good friend and Organic Grower of mine is quite successful in his biz.

I had a sudden irrational desire to vote for Art Farmer, but I came to my senses and voted for Claire. She's got 27%!

Me too.
Although, as an "ass man" I was tempted to vote for Fannie Farmer.

Chris.
Gimmick or not it has to be considered.
The trashman in me didn't loose enough money I had to go and start a little jazz label, remember CARS ?
Prior to going into semi retirement , I had started a organic company directed towards the landscape industry. Foothill Soils: although it has never produced a profit and given the economic conditions today is likely not to do so in the immediate future. It has provided me with a goal of trying to introduce people to the benefits of organics.
Not only organics but native plant life. The fires in Ca. are bigger then they should be because non native plants and plant life that has been introduced into the native organic life cycle. It's part of the reason but not the only reason and problem.
As the ag. business reluctantly drags their feet into this concept ( kind of reminds me of the record companies trying to fend off the internet ) they too will find out that it is their best interest to move in this direction.
I remain hopeful ( I'm not that naive ) that the Archard Daniels and Monsnatos of this world see that. I'm sure their R&D is working on it but it can't come soon enough. Especially when profits are concerned.
I didn't want to deflect from this campaign but it is a something for all of us to think about.
In any event good luck and if you need anything other then a vote let me know.
