The critically acclaimed MSM ACJO under the direction of Maestro Sanabria pays tribute to a living NEA jazz master, percussionist Candido Camero in celebration of his 88th birthday. Born in Havana, Cuba on April 22,1921, Maestro Camero arrived in NYC on July 4, 1946 being the first in a wave of virtuosic congueros that arrived from Cuba changing jazz forever. Featured on over 1,000 albums, Maestro Camero is featured on the forthcoming KENYA REVISITED LIVE!!! to be released May 12 on the Jazzheads label. This highly anticipated CD features an incredible reworking with new arrangements of an Afro-Cuban jazz masterpiece in celebration of this legendary album recorded by Machito's Afro-Cubans 50 years ago which featured Candido, Cannonball Adderley, and Joe Newman. Under Bobby's masterful leadership the concert was taped live at the Manhattan School of Music's Borden auditorium on April 1, 2008 to a standing room audience of 900 and was critically acclaimed in Jazziz magazine, Jazzwax.com, and Jazz Improv. The CD's release date is May 12 but it can be pre-ordered right now at amazon.com. The CD will also be on sale for attendees at Dizzy's on April 20th. Partial proceeds of the sale of each CD goes to the scholarship fund for the Jazz Fine Arts program at the Manhattan School of Music.

"... a passionate tribute. Each tune is a mini-suite complete with multiple time signatures, hypnotic rhythms, and hair raising sax soli."
-Marc Meyers, JAZZIZ

"Living legend Candido delivers a knockout punch with Bobby Sanabria conducting the Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban Jazz orchestra's re-enactment of the classic Machito album, Kenya."
- Will Friedwald, THE NEW YORK SUN

'What kind of fool would try to update a bona fide jazz classic? Bobby Sanabria is a heretic of the best kind. By the end of the first number the crowd was on its feet. Mario Bauza' and Frank Grillo (Machito) must be smiling in heaven."
- Tim Wilkins, JAZZ.COM

"The Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban jazz orchestra was so smoking that it was hard to remember that this was a band comprised of students!"
- Annie Simmons JAZZ IMPROV MAGAZINE
